I am excited to start playing HOI 4. I think that setting up the German navy is interesting. How much effort on submarines? When Sealion is dealt with, how is the planning towards dominating the Atlantic Ocean (USA)?

That entirely depends how good the AI is with its ships, or how able it is to defend against paratroopers.

In HoI3, you didn't need more than 2 Battleships (or maybe not even that) to sneak ten divisions into the British Isles, and that was totally sufficient to conquer all of Great Britain. It was just much too easy and outright boring.

I hope that with how sea zones and naval invasions work now, this is ultimately impossible. You should really need total air superiority to bomb the whole Royal Navy to the ground of the ocean, have a very decent fleet or be prepared to put like half a million paratroopers into Sealion. Everything else would again be not really satisfying.

And if that is sufficiently hard, then you propably need all of Europe to spam capital ships like there is no tomorrow to rival the US.

Subs are nice to have, but I always feel like they don't help me in an invasion. If Sea Lion however is so hard that you almost just can't do it (like in reality), then Subs are the way to go.

i think germany has 9 dockyards in the begining. I will use 2 for convoy's 3 for heavy cruisers(or battleship not sure) and with the other 4 i will start pruducing subs. Also new shipyards will go with 2:1 to subs

I think they said at some point that convoys are built using civilian factories, not dockyards, but I could be wrong... can anyone source or disprove this?

Dockyards build all ships including convoys.

You now need naval superiority and air superiority to make amphibious invasions so that make a navy buildup more important both for defence and for offence.

9 dockyards will not get you far, even a minimalistic submarine focus should get atleast 20 dockyards or so.

What i have seen is that every doctrine gives some basic things and than have a specialisation. Like Convoy attack instead of defense. or carrier bonus vs battelship bonus

We did see in WWW that Daniel's huge army and even large number of paratroopers, he was unable to take the Brits. He just had no navy to support it.

True and I really liked both that he did it at all and how exactly it went. Still that was an attack on a well-prepared human (Johan). How the AI will fare against such attacks remains to be seen.

Judging purely by the comments of the devs on AI in WWW and the forums over the last months I dare to be quite optimistic, though.

Do you think the See doctrines will be equal strong or more like rock-paper-scissors?

I think it depends a lot on what you're planning to achieve with naval warfare. Interdiction doctrine is probably the best for underdogs, the other two for more navally dominant ones.
