I cannot beat the German Civil War. The instant it begins, I lose 3/4 of my own units, which are directly transferred to the AI. The ones I am left immediately lose half of their equipment, as do the militia units I am given. The units under AI control keep all their equipment, and there are seemingly much more of them. Even if there's the same amount, it takes a 3-1 advantage for me to be able to beat them locally with all my units at half strength, which inevitably results in my getting outflanked and cut off by one division.

This makes no sense. The whole point of the event is the Wehrmacht rising up against Hitler. Why is the vast majority of the army siding with him? Why are my previously fully equipped troops suddenly tossing half of their guns down the toilet?

Well, you don't lose 3/4 of your units. You lose 1/2. It seems to be by category, with the odd result going to the AI. So disband one of the panzers before the war if you must, or bite the bullet and just leave it. I doesn't make THAT much difference. If you attack everywhere all the time like the AI does, you will take heavy loses. Most of the line needs to defend (micromanaging skills help). Pick a sector (northern Bavaria is best) and concentrate an attack force on that front. Cut the Fascist in two and reap the rewards. It is my experience (others my differ) that the war will be slow going until you lave flanking leverage in your attack sector, but it will pick up after that. Don't expect blitzkreig to work here....you dont have the forces to pull it off.

Losing half your equipment is a bug fixed (apparently) in the beta patch.

Just've tried the Civil War, and the only thinf to do is micromanagement, you could divide the Nazis into two Army, South and Eastern Front, apparently i've trapped more than 10 divisions in the South and hold the Eastern Front so they wont breakingthrough the line, once they get encircled, keep attacking them until their organization and equipment running out, the only bad thing about the Civil War is your army will lose the experience and went back to green rank instead of regular rank

One causes the other. Defending will gain experience for you. You want your attacks to be as brutal and short as you can. Relentless attacks will wear out your army faster than theirs. The whole point of encircling is that you can then concentrate firepower. Let the AI attack you along the front as much as it likes, you field army shouldn't lose experience at all at the end of the war....in fact it should gain it. So then you can disband it all to get Victoria. :D

I didn't have a problem with the Civil War, I had a problem where Kaiser Wilhelm couldn't be brought back, because A. Germany is in the Same situation as Spain post Civil War, No manpower (very little manpower (this was my own fault)) and only half the fielded Units of Fascist Germany (which is messy when you've spent a good year fighting Fascist Germany...thus time), B. a worse enconomy than Fascist Germany, and C. Netherlands said no, and the Old Allies said they'd help the Netherlands, which i couldn't reasonably fight and expect an easy enough war to make it worth it... then when i finally was forced on Willy the 3rd, it left (which feels like a glitch) the previous dictator in charge. -_- and If i didn't like France from the point of View of how they have purposely pushed themselves on top of other people, i do now. :O oh and D. the other Non-alignes chose their own faction ie the Romania/Hungary Faction long before i could create my own (i have notorious bad luck ask anyone)

do you play it on ahistorical mode ? The only solution for such problem IF you doesn't play on historical mode, well, restart the game

how long the civil war went in your gameplay ? I did it like only 11 months (if i remember correctly it finished on November 1936), so no chance for Poland and Hungary or Romania to form such faction(s)

I outright deleted all my army before completing the focus and yet a whole bunch of units spawned both at my side and the opponent's. That's not how regular civil wars work in this game.

Meh, special rules once again.

Still: any reason NOT to delete your starting army?

The Wehrmacht rebellion gives you a bunch of free units (landsknechten or something?) that can't be disbanded or have their templates modified. They disband automatically at the end of the civil war.

I'm guessing you get the extra units so that both sides can actually fill the front line. German Reich now starts with what, 30 divisions? 15 each side would not nearly be enough to cover the N/S border.
Besides, it's a good thing to have a counter to disband cheesing civil wars. Looks like they look at KR's second american civil war :)

Granted, losing half your equipment is extremely annoying. It's still possible to win quite easily, though.
