For some reason I can't give a species a stronger version of the same trait due to it being "the opposite of <trait>"

I can understand when it comes to negative traits that they have to be removed first before a more powerful one can be added, but I should be able to replace the "strong" of a species with "very strong" as long as I can pay the trait point cost.

Should be possible in 1.5, since you can remove positive / add negative traits there, with the proper tech and Ascension Path.

But I agree that upgrading from Strong to Very Strong should be possible with basic gene modding. Same with Adaptable => Extremely Adaptable

In theory, replacing Strong with Very Strong makes sense (in much the same way as replacing Enduring with Venerable), as you are just improving upon an innate ability already in place, but that wasn't how they made it. With Utopia, you can do this, but as has been said above, you must first remove the one you want to replace. The unfortunate thing is that this ability is tied to the Genetic Ascension path as I understand it, meaning you're SoL if you decide to go Spiritual or Cybernetic.

Given the scope of what they were trying to build, I could see how this simple thing could get put aside, but this could be fixed quite easily by now with very minor editing. Make an alternate version of Strong that is only available in modification mode (and not species creation), for the price of the difference. Run an effects script, if species has both Strong and Strong, delete both and replace with Very Strong. Done.

Until somebody makes it as a mod, or it gets altered in an update, not much you can do though.

Edit: unless I am wrong about Utopia, and they've changed a few things since the DevDiary updates. I guess we'll see in a few days :)
