I never use genetic engineering when playing xenophile: I have to make a research project for every single species and it's an hassle.
This becomes evident when we are talking about ascension path: psionic and syntetic both get the option to "assimilate" pops, giving them all the bonuses from your ascension path (syntetic is pretty good for xenophiles, since you basically "standardize" every pop)

I understand that it's not possible to have an "assimilate" button for the genetic ascension, but I really want to know how other people are overcoming this problem.

You really need to take Xeno-Compatibility also, for much alien love.

Any mad genetic-engineering scientists dream, you can mix genes from everyone in one big cosmic genetic orgy.

I usually just focus on the species that I have a lot of in my empire and simply ignore the smaller ones. It's not ideal, but I consider it "good enough".

More a quality of life thing, but I would really like a toggleable minorities filter for the species and planetary tab (where the demographics are). This would hide all species who are less than 10 in number from the UI, allowing you a clearer picture of the main pops you have.

It's totally frustrating to upgrade all species. In multiplayer impossible. In Single Player you have to stop the game for 20min and upgrade one by one. And as soon as you get another gene point, you can start anew. Here are some suggestions for the developers:

Suggestion 1: There should be the option to design several default templates and then batch apply them to all species with one upgrade.
Suggestion 2: Change the machanic so that instead of (or in addition to) upgrading them, you design a default template and they automatically convert into that template over time.
Suggestion 3: Pops choose an existing template based on their job. So a miner would convert into the worker template you created and a scientist converts into an erudite engineer.

You should put it in suggestions.

Personally I love the number 2.
Making the change gradual instead of a society research project is really interesting
