I was wondering how different National Focus options will be for non-major nations. For example will all southern american nations have the same/similar National focuses or will they be tailored specifically? If not then do you expect wider NF trees to be included in later patches or even paid DLC?

As far as I'm aware, there is one minor National Focus tree that all minors will share.

Wiz said the other day that the dev effort for a new NF tree is fairly large, so it may be a DLC thing rather than a patch thing, but that wasn't determined yet and won't be decided by him.

It won't be long after release that someone will launch a major mod project with the aim to give a unique tree to every single nation in the game. :)

The world war Wednesday with Finland shows the generic tree. Really the tree of each major has the same basic layout anyway. Industry buildup, army, navy, air, political stuff. The minors have the same basic one but with generic names like infrastructure buildup whereas the Germans would have reichautobahn. Obviously majors have some wider variation, but it doesn't take away from gameplay for minors to have generic trees. I imagine they won't just add new trees alone as dlc, but have the also as part of dlc. Like have a Far East dlc that on top of adding features that make the Japan war more interesting also adds a nationalist China, communist China and India national focus tree. The trees to be specific seems like a ton of research time that needs to be put in to give each minor a bunch of focuses specific to the politics within each at the time simply to add a bit of flavour. Hardly worthy of all the effort for the base game when there's so many minors and many people will mostly just play the majors anyway

I understand this and is why i suggested having at least a regional tree like SA, Middle East, Far east etc I don't agree that it is just flavor however as the trees seem like a very important way to directing your play style to different methods and therefore create replay ability. Furthermore it seems odd to me that all minors have the same tree, if that tree involves joining each faction then we could see communist china joining the fascists or democrats for example. I agree that majors should have more diverse options but i just feel that china should have different options to brazil or mexcico etc and this shouldnt be left to mods

Agreed. From the video on World War Wednesday, it seemed like it's generic as they showed with Finland though it's probably very moddable.

There are diference in eficiency.

Some majors get 4 civ factories in single NF (Uk Limited Rearmament) and leter 6 mil also in single one (UK Royal Ordinance Factories)

in comparison by using six NF Minor will get 4civ and 3 mil factories. (Finland)

I guess the most easy choice is let them have generic trees for common things like a industry buildup and always just add a few decisions for every minor.
(Ireland--->getting northern Ireland for example) More is better, sure, but i would let handle the mods.
Normally i would say thats a developers job, but honestly its different with HoI 4 and most likely stelleris too. Both seem to be constructed to be easy modable,
and the modding community in this forum is one of the finest i have ever seen in the www. So i really think paradox schould focus on game mechanics and content,
while the modders polishing the diamond.

In that thing i just want to add:
Thank too all of you people who worked on Mods for HoI 3 and other games!

I see you point but i think there is a problem with a developer allowing mods to fill lots of content for them

I don't agree.
If we want trees to be as specific , yet balanced, as possible, it takes time and frankly I'm tired of waiting.
I'd rather have the game with one generic tree as soon as possible and the when they have time they implement new ones. After all I would imagine the first playthroughs will be with major nations (think of the whole market, not just this forum), and when people start to get bored, Paradox gives them reasons to get back to the game.

If EU is anything to go by, if HOI4 is successful, at some point every country will have a specific tree.
I know it's been said that EU ideas are less complicated than HOI focus trees, but HOI also has way less countries.

I completely get what you are saying but i fear that content not in the initial game that could be there if they spent more time will come later with a pay wall

That's kinda my point, imo the game would be complete with the dlc so are they not releasing an incomplete game?

Would you rather wait another year for HoI4 with extra national focuses or get the game in Q1 then pay for some DLC later in 2016? It's not like they are holding back some content (other than some 3D models I guess) that they plan to release separately for extra profit, they actually have to dedicate resources to make extra national focuses.

Now why should they spend valuable man hours developing a unique NF for Costa Rica? I think it would be better served if they decide to have a cold war and/or beyond HOI, than for one that is focused around world war II. I get it for Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary and Romania and even Yugoslavia and Turkey etc..., but not for every country as less than a tenth of one percent would ever play them and even less more than once.

Ok you guys have convinced me it would be better to have an earlier release maybe. But i still want to see at least regional NF trees and not just let modders do the work

I agree with you on this. If they cannot have country-specific focus trees, than they should go for regional.
Like, sooner or later I would imagine the following countries to get trees:

British Commonwealth + India,
Spain,
China,
East European Nations
Turkey,
Portugal,
Brazil
Greece, (and obviously many more that don't come to mind now).

Other could get something more generic but grouped by region:

Rest of South American countries
Benelux
Far East Asia if they're releaseable
Africa if they're releasable.

The reality is, a new national focus costs time from Dev, QA, and Art teams (at a minimum).

I hope that they will implement themed DLCs, such as one for China that will build out a really flavorful game experience in China, including National Focuses. I just don't see that it should be a priority to do that over polishing the game experience for the Majors for the initial release.
