Well, it's ill-defined. It probably works - I haven't tried it - so, it has a pulse! But, then again, even deep coma patients have one of those so, yeah...

So... Is this still alive?

It's in hiatus until the patch enabling the save_event_target_as effect and using variables in localization is released. Good news is that with those two additions and the add/subtract/divide_variable effect, I'll be able to have a much more intricate and efficient system set up which will allow me to fix all the existing bugs with the mod and allow for cool things like the ability to easily check even more distant and intricate relationships for inbreeding (allowing for really specific cases like triple second cousins to be checked). I'll even able to add opinion modifiers to them so that you'll be able to see exactly how someone is related to your character.

Sounds complex and cool. CK2's native method for handling (and punishing) inbreeding is not very thorough, so your efforts are appreciated.

Is this still working alright post-way of life? Also, does anyone know if it has compatibility issues with HiP? It'd be nice to have a version that incorporates the many new traits from there.

Sorry for the delay guys, I've been a bit busy but I'll try and put out an update sometime over the weekend. This mod should still work with WoL but I'd like someone to verify that for me as I won't have access to CK2 for some time. Sadly, some of the new modding features don't really work as well as I had hoped - variables can't be localised in traits and the new event_target system can't be used with dead characters. I figured out a way to work around some of the bugs but it also means that I won't be able to implement some of the more uncommon relationships (ie great-uncle/niece/aunt/nephew and second cousins).

That said would you guys still prefer to see a trait indicating the % of homozygosity or would you prefer a more discrete system without the trait showing up on characters, but with the value to still being able to checked via a secret event/decision?

HIP Compatibility would be very enjoyable.
It's always been compatible with HIP.

It's always been compatible with HIP.

secret traits are getting a tad clutter with every other mod using a trait as a flag.

I've released the long awaited update. This one was a doozie to finish up, but the results should speak for themselves!

New features:
Fix for homozygosity not being added to characters whose parents were avuncularly related or cousins when a link was dead.
Homozygosity is now calculated using variables rather than traits.
Discrete traits still exist, and now give players an estimated (to 2.5%) rather than exact value of homozygosity.
Homozygosity gain has been reworked to be a lot more realistic.
Localisation tags added to events just in case.
Removed the negative trait mutation chance.
It is now possible for a character to be born with both the lunatic and inbred trait rather than one or the other.
Reduced heritability of lunatic/inbred traits for unrelated parents (from 50%/parent to 25% as in vanilla).
If a character is affected by an increase in homozygosity the odds of inheriting genetic traits increase as well, depending on how high homozygosity is.
-This means that if two cousins both have the "Strong" trait their children are much more likely to inherit it than if it were two unrelated parents instead.
-Purebreds always inherit any and all genetic traits that parents share (affects vanilla CK2 and HIP traits).
Characters must be subject to a homozygosity increase to gain the inbred/lunatic traits.
Purebred now only requires both of a character's parents to be at 50% homozygous. This trait is now achievable by the 4th generation at the earliest rather than the 5th.
Purebreds are now immune to mutation (ie they will not inherit traits that their parents don't have). Only checks vanilla CK2 and HIP traits for now.
More complicated fractional relationships (ie half-cousins, 3/4 siblings, etc) are now checked.

I strongly recommend starting a new game before playing with this update.

A few questions I have regarded this mod:

1) You mentionned the mod only dealing with Vanilla and HIP traits. Does that mean it's incompatible with other mods than HIP?
2) Is the homozygosity trait added to existing characters before the start of the game? I asked because that's how I wanted to check if the mod was working and I wasn't able to find the trait. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I'd still like to know.
3) Is the GIS marriage mod usable in its current form or should I wait for an update?

This mod works with any other mod, just that it only affects congenital vanilla and HIP traits. If you play some other mod that adds congenital traits (I assume GoT and the Elder Scrolls mod both do this) then those traits are just ignored. Homozygosity is only added if the character is at least 2.5% homozygous, and is assigned to children at the beginning of the game whose parents are close (In the GoT mod this should automatically assign a value to the Lannister children for instance) and after that, only to newborns.

AFAIK GIS marriage is still usable. That said, it's not necessary and simply pushing the MARRIAGE_AI_PRESTIGE_VALUE up to ~1 has a similar effect in reducing lowborn marriage. I'll probably end up updating it in the near future.
