I checked out the Golden Horde as a possible player nation and noticed that all of its provinces freeze in the winter. Presumably this makes them easier to defend as besieging armies get frostbite while the defenders are snug in the city. Does this mean that playing as a cold country is easier in some ways?

On the other hand, you do have to pay attention that your own armies dont slowly starve away because of the winter increase in attrition...

Of course. Just let your enemy's armies siege your provinces in the winter and then attack them in the spring when their numbers are severely depleted. :)

The supply limit in a province during the winter (when it is white) drops by 10 IIRC.

I like this feature because it forces you to play historically even if the AI won't.

A wise player will plan to start his campaigns in February or March (depending on winter's grip) and have their goals achieved by about November. Otherwise expect a nasty winter siege and a lot of dead and deserted troops. Long protracted wars between Sweeden and Russia are usually particularly costly. :D

IMO, Norway is the real widow-maker... They have provinces with a supply of 4 or something like that... Besides, Norway is all mountains... :(

Vassalize -> annex. Georgia's maximum mountain fortress port is a lot easier to take this way, too. :)

Then there is Oman.
Here the lack of any drinkable water kills 'em off quick ;).

Yeah, theyre fun against enemies, but they really suck if you see your own armies wasting away because you were too forgetfull to split them before winter comes :)
