with all the techs included in the game im suprise that mg tech were not included. some countries like britain and russia started the war with maxim guns and light mg only both of which were substancially inferior to the german gpmg mg-34 and mg-42. the japanese were particularly hindered by their obsolete mmgs and poorly manufactured lmg.
tech progression could easily be modelled something like this:
ww1 MG (maxim gun) -> basic lmg (bren gun clone or BAR)-> basic gpmg (mg-34 or browning .30) -> advanced gpmg ( mg-42 or fn-mag style mg)
i suppose these lmgs are just part and parcel of assault rifle tech...
