Would it be possible to mod in different general ranks?
For instance, right now we either have a general (that can command 12 units) or a field marshal (which can command infinite amount of troops), would it be possible to mod in additional generals (for example ones that can command 6 or 20 or any number we want)?

If yes, how easy/hard is this going to be?

Looking at the modability of previous installments, i would guess its a matter of editing a textfile with notepad. The fact that the developers say it would be much more modable than HoI III strenghens that guess aswell.

It would probably a good idea to remove them loosing their traits unless they are of course promoted to FM but still loose 1 skill level, so that you dont instantly simply promote them to the highest general level.

well, most modding in HoI III actually can be done with notepad. In most cases they even include some txt instructions and templates in the folders for HoI III.

actually, the game started out with widely differently sized generals. They changed that a few months ago tho to the 2 step system. Before that you had 5 division generals, 15 division generals, 25 division generals, 50 division generals, 100 division generals and field marshals.

I am guessing that there is a place where it says how upgrade from what to what, and you can simply add in new links, you can probably also change the penalties for promotion quite easily.

I doubt amateurs can reprogram the AI to understand how/when to promote Generals between the different levels.

You couldn't mod it in HOI3 in Notepad, it was hardcoded.

The only things that are likely to be moddable is the limit on the number of Divs allowed by a general. And the names of the ranks are probably localised to different languages, so could be changed.

So if you really wanted to have "Lt.General" in charge of 10 and "General" unlimited, you could do it.

Actually, I think initially there was not a differentiate at all, generals were just generals and they added Field Marshalls later though I could be wrong about that but I'm pretty sure since the beginning of HOI4 the OOB was a discussion and PDX has maintained the same answer that there will not be an on map OOB nor a Corps level command.

In the initial (Alpha screenshots and information from the devs) there were Mj.Gen, Lt.Gen, General and FM. IIRC with command limits of 5, 10, 25 and 100 Divs. That was only fairly recently streamlined to just Gen and FM, commanding 12 and unlimited.

I doubt amateurs can reprogram the AI to understand how/when to promote Generals between the different levels.
You couldn't mod it in HOI3 in Notepad, it was hardcoded.

The only things that are likely to be moddable is the limit on the number of Divs allowed by a general. And the names of the ranks are probably localised to different languages, so could be changed.

So if you really wanted to have "Lt.General" in charge of 10 and "General" unlimited, you could do it.

why does the AI need to understand it, the mod sounds like an immersion thing for a player. AI can still use generals and field marshals surely

It'll depend on what's hard-coded into the engine and what's set as parameters in the settings files, and we really don't know a heap about what's where at the moment. My guess would be as per Potski's post, that the number of divs the two tiers can take will be moddable, and the names, but anything else would (as far as I can tell, could be wrong of course) require extra settings to manage the AI's handling of the generals just for mods, and it doesn't sound like the team has had the spare time to do that kind of thing.
