Re: Script tool

Hi guys,

I have developed a tool for scripting ministers. Since it's based on a script tool (AutoIt), it does not have a flashy GUI but inbox dialogs to write names, personality and other treats for your ministers. I will post it here friday when it's ready for an early beta test.

What's good about it is that you do not have to worry about missing out an "x" or an ";" somewhere in your minister files. The .exe file does not require any runtime files and since it's only about 50kb it's available for most of mod developers.

If it falls out good it can easly be converted to create leaderfiles etc.

A minister editor! I'm so happy somebody finally decided to make one! :)

I understand. The conversion seems like a really hard task, so I totally understand why you haven't fully done yet, but the progress that you've did seems great!

Tool

You can now download and test the minister script tool I wrote about.

Be aware that it's not yet ready. So far it only produce your ruling government. I'm too tired to debug the few hundred lines of code that makes it up tonight. Depending on time this weekend I'll work on comments and my own ideas (if you guys think it can be usefull). Apparently there is a window class available to this script language as well, which makes it possible to rewrite it into a tool with a full GUI.

Wow, that's a really great program!

Well, the only suggestion I have is to add the ability for replacements, but since this is only a test version, I think it's great!

Replacements are a MUST and will be included this weekend, so is a fascist- and communist shadow government. Not sure on votings though...

- Is this enough as GUI (graphic always add one or two hundred kb)?
- How about scraping the steps (step 1-5) and use a "main" window from were you call all functions?
- How about a feature that can random most of the data (except the names) when creating a shadow government ?
- How about a function that can make you preview all entered data?
- How about a feature that can read names from a preset file with ";" between names and convert it into a minister .csv file?

Size isn't important. It's kind of weird that it goes down to the sidebar-thingy instead of like a normal minimized window. I think the grpahics are fine.

Sure. The step system isn't really that bad either.

That'd be great. Also it would be nice if everything empty became a blue, black, or red shadow by default depending on the ideology of the government.

Good.

Overall the thing looks to be very useful for pounding away our huge minister list.

- Since the goal was to developed a small program - fast, I skipped further development of a gui. The reason it goes down to the "sidebar-thingy" is becourse it's not really a program but a compiled script.

- Skipped the step system...

Lunar wrote:...it would be nice if everything empty became a blue, black, or red shadow by default depending on the ideology of the government.
- Could you elaborate that?

You can now create the ruling government and a replacement government (working on the fascist and communist gov).
Next step is to make it:
-read .txt files and generate .csv files based on content of the .txt
-draw a complete preview of all entered data to the use.

More that needs/should be added?

Actually, the GUI you have now is perfect. It simple, but totally to the point, and I think it's a very easy program to work with. It's very useful, IMHO.

Not important really. In HoI an unknown minister will be named something like "Blue Shadow" (if democratic), so I was thinking that would make a better default. So if you create a communist shadow cabinet, everything becomes "Red Shadow" by default.

Very useful program.

Fixed and implemented :)
