This is just an experiment. Instead of a full-text AAR, this will just be a kind of animated historical atlas. I reloaded a Gelre save file using about 25 years between steps. With the screen showing nations in different colours, I took care to position the screen in exactly the same way each time. After taking screen shots, I reduced the image sizes to 60%, sharpened them a bit, and built an animated gif. So, what you hopefully see is a map of Europe from 1420 to 1645, showing a steady growth of Gelre. Here it comes (I hope). It's 336 Kb, and might take a while depending on connection speed. Unfortunately, Poland has the same colour, so it is a bit difficult to see where Gelre starts and Poland ends
Supposing it shows, this is in short what happened. I started by building a coalition of immediate neighbours to my east, and then attacked and conquered Friesland. No CB. This resulted in some wars with some other German states. Together with my allies this resulted in some extra provinces, that were unfortunately not attached to my capital.
While keeping good relationships with England, I waited for Burgundy to grow weak. At one point, they had hardly any trrops in their northern provinces, and I had asked military access from sufficient countrioes to reach their capital. The resulting war gave my the Netherlands proper.
I then transfered Dutch monarch files, and played with those. I had wanted to go north, but the French kept attacking, so I wound up with a sizable portion of France itself.
I am at a loss what to do now, but that is beside the point.
Do you like this type of display? Would it be a good idea for people to include similar maps?
