I think Gearing is a pretty cool feature. However, it seems to me there are a couple eminently fixable things that make it less useful than it should be. Please make it better:

1) Add information about gearing bonuses to the production screen.

When ordering a new production, I would like to see the gearing bonus (%) applied to the last unit in the serial run and number of units that received that level of bonus if it maxed out. Seems like this information could fit on the line that has "Takes X days to develop."

On the production queue, I would like the mouse-over help to include the gearing bonus for the current unit, as well as either the bonus for the next unit or the maximum bonus reached in that serial run.

2) Allow gearing bonuses to survive a short period of under-funding, or make the production IC allocation insensitive to changes in IC total.

As things stand now, any dissent-generating event or action (e.g. Scandal, DoW) will cause the bottom of the production queue to be underfunded at the end of the day when the negative IC effect of the new dissent total is calculated in. The problem is that by the time this underfunding is apparent, all gearing bonuses on the affected production runs have already been removed. This can be avoided by over-funding production before the end of the day when the dissent occurs, so I think it's safe to say this is an unintended consequence of the interaction of these game mechanics.

The game should either allow you a chance to fix the production IC allocation before imposing the (potentially quite large) penalty that goes with resetting gearing bonuses (e.g. a day or a week before bonus disappears), or make the production IC allocation automatically attempt to preserve full-funding of production runs when total IC drops.

Anyway, such are my thoughts. I searched around and saw hundreds of good suggestions, but none specifically about this. Just some ideas for consideration. :)

2)No, won't happen. That's working as designed, having long serial runs with full gearing is supposed to be hard.

Think of it like this: You have docks that are building submarines, loads of submarines actually. They are all going smooth and all and they have learned to build them faster and better. Now, internal turmoil hits your country, perhaps in the form of protests against the government war-time wage restrictions, and the workers head to the streets to demonstrate and go on a strike. Surely the production in the docks suffers from that.

They need to just give you the option of setting IC based on % of what is needed instead of # of ICs. So if you set your production to 100% and you get hit with dissent or something, it automatically adjusts the amount of ICs spent such that you're still at 100%. You'd have to leave at least 1 slider unlocked of course so it could reduce another slider to compensate.
