Gavelkind

On CK2 Wiki i have found this:

"Upon death, the player would play as the eldest son, as he is the one inheriting the primary title. The other siblings will remain your vassals, unless the ruler was holding other titles with same rank as primary title, in which case holder will become independent."

But when i was playing with Gavalkind, after my character died, my Kingdome become 3 seperate kingdoms (i had 3 kis).
However i was playing about year ago with such situation.

Something have changed? Because from the wiki it looks that the oldest son will become a king and his brothers his vassals. How Gaveliknd works now(i am confused)?

Did you have elective gavlekind? With elective gavlekind any kingdoms that can be created are created when you die and given to your other sons.

Or were you just an independent duke?

Yeah, read the differences between the two laws. With elective gavelkind, it mentions something about the Heirs getting the chance to declare independence. Standard Gavelkind does not mention this at all. With standard gavelkind the brothers become vassals. With elective they can become independent.
