Eventually you're just influence limited.

I would have argued with you last week but not so much this week as I've progressed further in the game. By roughly 2400 I, as a not-good-player, had more of every resource than I knew what to do with. Specifically I'm almost of a mind to complain that there are not ENOUGH places to spend your resources.

People talking about 'fleets being smaller in 2.2' haven't figured out how to work the economy yet.

Not even talking about exploits. Just the raw scale of what you can do with specialized worlds.

And heaven help the rest of the galaxy if you find Fen Hab.

Early on I had troubles because of alloy production combined with NOT spamming anchorages in my early starbases. Specifically I used a LOT more trade hubs than I normally would have. Otherwise I had my normal [sub-optimal] playthrough.

By late-mid-game I was back to my normal "spam anchorages everywhere" type playstyle. My fleet is pathetic by many player's standards however I'm at fleet cap [and could go way over as-needed] and the slightly reduced number of hulls is likely made up by having MORE repeatables than I would normally have had at this point in the game.
