Thanks, but that would mean they think lovers of the genre will even like it less than the average gamer?

EDIT: This is the definition of tilt on the game spot website:

"Reviewer's Tilt (Tilt)
This score basically lets a reviewer sway the final score--either higher or lower--based on the reviewer's experience with a game. Here's an example: A game might have really good graphics but really bad gameplay--so it gets a low tilt score to keep the overall score low, since the game ultimately isn't fun. Or a game might have poor graphics and sound but have a really good story--so it might get a high tilt to boost the overall score a bit."

I can not really interpret this as a score for Die-hards to be honest.

Actually I think it's the reviewer's own tilt. How he/she rates the genre.

So thinking about it, it's not quite the same as your suggestion

Let's not go too far... I wouldn't compare MOO3 and Victoria. MOO3 was pretty much unplayable, or rather, there was nothing to do while you played it--next turn, next turn, next turn...

I wasn't comparing MOO3 and Victoria, I was comparing the reaction of those on the forums for both games to reviews and those doing the reviewing.

One thing to is you disagree with the review is to go to Gamespot and submit your own ratings. I gave it a 9.9. The reader scores are up to 8.9 now.

BTW, 6.3 is very low for Gamespot. To compare:

Europa Universalis 8.1
Europa Universalis II 8.5
Hearts of Iron 7.0

Master of Orion III 6.7
Railroad Tycoon III 8.7
Civilization III 9.2

Anything below an 7.0 is rather unusual for the site.

I understand where this reviewer is comming from. After two days of owning Victoria I thought is was one of the worst games I had ever played. After 1.5 weeks of owning Victoria I think it is the best game I have ever played. I own and play EU, EUII, and HOI very often. Still when I first got Vic I was completely and totally overwhelmed by the depth of the game. It takes a long while just to understand what is happening and why. After you get past that the game is amazing.

Hmm, now that I think about it some more, I'm pretty sure that he just paraphrased the "Where does the money come from" thread. I highly doubt that he could discover the money sink and WM buy-and-dump all by himself, we figured out those problems by collective discussion. I now doubt how long he actually played the game.

Well i think you really have to play Victoria awhile before you can make any assumtions about it.(as for any game) At first i though it was to hard and far to complicated....but my last game as Prussia-Germany by1850, i saw the light and the game suddenly made sense to me. A few more patches and i think it will be up there with EUII(More Automation options for pops etc.)

I know when HOI came out i though it was the best....then after a few months my opinion changed alot.....HOI is no longer installed on my computer!

That Gamespot rating is to low....exspecially sense civ3 gets a 9.2
I was a civ2 fanatic for 6 some years and i thought Civ3 was a joke and MOO3 for that matter.

what was there rating for Civ2 cause EU1 converted me from a Civ2 fanatic to a EU fanatic;)

I liked CIV III, but, the add-on Play the World was messed up as far as MP went, but, I'm not a multiplayer fan(atic) so it didn't bother me that much. What was not to like about CIV III? Surely you didn't get upset with no diplomats or spies to move around the board, no caravans? Surely not? ;) CIV III is great and in my top 15 CD case, but, you can bet HOI and VICTORIA are not. ;) EU2 is though, much more fun than Victoria. But, then again I waited until EU2 was fully patched before buying it and yah can't go wrong for $7.99 for it. ;) And I got CIV III & Play the World for $19.99 total so still a bargin.

Raginhood,

I like CIV3 too, I thought they made a lot of improvements and cleanup, though almost nothing in the game was really new. Now I prefer that, refinement and improvement instead of marketing features, but.. I returned CIV3 after a couple of days and waited for them to fix it.

The review scores of games reviewers like do not reduce their score for bugs, and I think thats the point when comparing the civ to vic scores.

Plenty!

I for one, loved the original CIV (yes, I am that old) and also enjoyed CIV 2... however, CIV 3 left me totally uninspired. It did have some cool concepts like adding resources, but other than that it was rather bland IMHO.

What was not to like about CIV III?
Watching a triream using arrow fire to sink a destroyer.
Watching a spearman poke his spear at a tank and have it explode.
Having curruption drain 1000 dollars from your income.
Having a city with 10 rifelman divisions and most of the population set on 'content' defect
Instantly teleporting a division across a continenet thanks to the railroads.
See a ironclad sink a submarine
etc.

thats cuz you must have something that blcocks the domain image.image.com. A common culprit is kazaa lite or a firewall.

Ah, thanks! :)

Please keep the discussion on topic folks, this is the Vic, not the Civ III forum. :)
