Games are far smoother in W7 compared to W10

W10 was slower and really 'hitchy' as in a brief delay selecting units, people, provinces, windows etc.

I have reverted back to W7, so much better.

PoI is also notably smoother...

I can confirm this. I used to run both EU4 and CK2 for example just fine with a reasonable fast speed on Windows 7, the moment I changed to windows 8.1 they became sluggish and it continued with Windows 10 as well. Maybe I also should revert to Windows 7.

don't forget guys, windows 10 is still brand new. it has a LOT of bugs to work out but will do good in the long run, especially since microsoft doesn't plan on making any more operating systems.

Yeah right now windows 10 is more of a downgrade in terms of compatibility. I'm waiting for next year like a month before the free offer ends, my hope is that by then things will be better.

For me window 10 is actually lagging. I had no problem with windows 8 but it would take 20 seconds just for the sound adjustment to appear. It might be my computer but I don't think even my computer is bad enough to lag that much

Win10 works perfectly for me, and in any case most of competant reviewers says it's a performance boost. It's most likely that you probably upgraded from old windows OS, which wasn't maintained(defraged, regisitry cleaned, regular os reinstalls etc), without doing a clean install.

Yeah, upgrade and then cleanly reinstall it. Its what I'll be doing when I move over to my new system.

My room mates computer is 3 months old, it is a gaming machine and runs much better than mine. It came with windows 8 and he's since upgraded to 10. Since then he's been getting some funky compatibility issues with a couple games, I don't remember which ones now I'll ask when he gets home.
It has also been constantly trying to ignore his internet cable that is plugged in and keeps trying to activate his wireless without asking. Yesterday every 10 minutes it would automatically disconnect him from the web and try and re-connect with wireless. Now we do have wireless in the house but it should NOT be doing this every 10 minutes without him asking it to. He's actually had to completely uninstall his wireless modem, including removing all drivers and it finally stopped.
This is from a brand new computer with windows 8 remember, so yes there are some issues with 10 still.

Thanks, I heard so much buzz about how streamlined W10 was that I had considered upping my gaming computer to it (for no reason, I can run everything on ultra), but why not. Luckily I've waited.

Windows 10 was a HUGE HUGE performance upgrade from Win 7 in EUIV for me; I haven't measured it but the months on speed 5 seem to go almost twice as fast. (Not exaggerating thats what it feels like) the game became a LOT smoother and faster. I feel like my i7 is finally using its true power.

On the other hand..... CK2 runs half as fast (or even less tbh), the months go sluggishly, old late-game saves are almost unplayable. And plenty of 'laggy' bugs, like when I click on a province it takes like a second or so for it to register on speed 5 (used to be instantenous). Sometimes the clicks don't register at all (on any speed even) which necessiates clicking more than once (this can be fixed by alt-tabbing and then back again for me at least). Playing on speed 5 is a lot less enjoyable in CK2 that's certain.

Although I am unsure if these performance problems are because of WIndows 10 or the Horse lords patch. (prob mixture of both).

I haven't noticed a difference in HoI3, though if anything it plays slightly faster.

Well definitely my EUIV performance improved greatly - that is literally my main reason for not reverting to Windows 7.

EDIT my hardware - i7-4790, GTX 750 ti, 8 GB RAM, 64 bit windows 10 & a standard hard drive.

I've gone from Win 8.1 to Win 10 and it seems fairly similar. CK2 is a bit patchy, but EU4 seems to play just fine (possibly a little faster, but so close it's not worth worrying about, and I might be imagining it). That said, I've got a mate who's playing Fallout: New Vegas and has found the switch to Win 10 made it pretty stuttery.

As @aruon says, it's a new OS, and it's bound to have a few bugs and teething trouble (name the new Microsoft OS that hasn't - yup, that's a trick question ), but it seems fairly reasonable out of the gate. I wouldn't recommend upgrading until there's a need/it won't be free anymore though, no harm in waiting for it to be stable. We only upgraded one of our two machines (the backup machine that doesn't have serious stuff on it, and is mainly used for gaming) just in case it went pear-shaped.

I have not had any issues with windows 10, but my computer is a beast. i7, 16 gbs of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 660. It's about 4 years old now but future-proofed pretty good.

Sorry - my machine's fairly capable (at least CPU-wise, which is generally what counts for PDS games) - an i7 3770, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 660. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if W10 was optimised for more recent hardware, new Microsoft OS' have tended to run not as well on older hardware (Win 7 is about the only exception I can think of to this rule) since as long as I can remember (which goes back to when Microsoft OS' were called MS-DOS, those were the days ).

In a couple of days I will get my brand new PC rig with i7 6700K, GTX 970 as my 5.5(!) year old laptop has finally decided to die after being "sick" for around half a year. So yeah RIP, dear laptop. But now I am entering the gaming desktop train and I am hyped. I will test how much difference it is between windows 7 and windows 10 in the games. But if we are to believe the different reviews then windows 10 does not run faster compared to windows 7.

The Windows 8 kernel is what makes it so.
