Gamersgate version no longer installs on W7 64 bit

This error comes up after downloading the Gamersgate version and launching the installer on Windows 7 64 bit Home:

"The program or feature .. cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64 bit versions of windows. Please contact the software vendor."

I've installed the Gamersgate version many times over the years on this computer and as recently as a few months ago. I always add the patch updates afterwards. Setting the downloader to XP compatibility mode doesn't work. Something has changed. How do I solve this?

Update: This error message also appears while installing Gamersgate Arsenal of Democracy.

I'm afraid there's not much we can do. The problem appears to be in the Gamersgate installer.

I messaged GamersGate Support and the response was that they have had "similar complaints and are currently investigating."

I recently downloaded and installed the game without the error messages. It seems to be okay now.
