I never used gamersgate. Is it reliable? How long do they keep the info, meaning could I be downloading HOI3 in 5 years for my new system? Do they have a copy protection scheme for HOI3?

You can keep the downloaded installation files on your HD or burn them on a DVD too if you like so dont worry.

I was wondering about that. Where would I see these installation files? I've bought a lot of games from GG, and the service is definitely very convenient. If you check the site regularly you can take advantage of many sales, as I have, including the current 50% off all Pdox games.

Anyway, back to my original question. When I DL a game, what I get is a 65K file which does the DL and installation for me. This small file shows up in my DL folder, but the huge game file itself is no where to be seen. If I need to reinstall the game, as has happened once, I have to click on the 65k file and redownload it. Any idea where the game file itself is? I'd rather stash it on a disk for safe keeping. BTW, I'm using Vista 64. Thanks!

Ubercat: After installation you are asked if you want to keep temporary files, delete temporary files or restart installer. If you keep temporary file and the downloader, you can install without needing to redownload.

Well, hopefully they have noticed the massive amounts of pre-orders. ;)
And? Look at steam, its not like they would buy any additional bandwiths and servers, so why should GG?

But, maybe they use preload to ease the pressure?

I have more concerns with the actual quality of the download. I have got multiple games from GamersGate and at least 2, if not more, had big enough problems that I had to contact customer support and have them fix it on their end. I usually buy the games on Friday evening, which means there is no one available at GG support until Monday morning. With HOI3 coming out on a Friday I sure hope that GG staff will be answering e-mails over the weekend.

I've repeatedly rebuilt or reinstalled OS's on my systems (in fact my gaming rig will be rebuilt again on monday). I have repeatedly downloaded and installed games from GG without any issues. This includes having a copy on the windows partition and the linux partition of my gaming rig. I have only encountered one issue with gamersgate before, and that was the download copy of CK did not install properly. I contacted customer service via email and in several hours the issue was resolved for everyone. I personally rate GG with five stars for reliability, ease of use, and great customer service. Not to mention, you can always redownload your games in the future if you rebuild or reinstall your system!

Im not that impressed with Gamersgate. I had to wait for 6 hours before the download of IL2 was ready and then when it was ready and i wanted to install it, the game just vanished without a trace in the system and i had to download that SHIT all over again for another six hours.

I actually am already sorry i preordered HOI3 via GG because that gonna take many hours probably t be ready. That sucks

I've used GG quite alot and like it very much. Won't be ordering HOI3 on 4th of August, though. I think I'll wait a week for the rush to subside. ;-)

The little installer program saves the download into a directory where you put that 65k file. So basically if you put that download exe onto your desktop and you run it, you will have a directory on your desktop that it will put everything.
