For aircrafts reability is the armor stat unlike for ships which reability protects from critical hits. Aircrafts don't have an armor attribute which can be seen in dev diary 8. All this may have been changed because very little is known about variants.

Thanks all for the very nice comments!

@Kadanz
On Air research tech tree, I just don't know how much immersion the current 'display' will give you and once you make the variants. I support the sand box of picking which upgrade you want. I also support forcing the historical path, just which suits the player best.

I made the video with three audiences in mind, the Developers which I hope want feedback, the forum members who do watch closely (you all), and those who have played HoI (whatever version) but aren't fallowing closely and will search YouTube at some point. As many have commented here the main Previews have be made by people that seemed to have never finished a HoI game. I have and I thought I would try to fill the gap. I will try to keep the below playlist up-to-date with the latest HOI IV preview videos from whatever the source. I just stopped making screen caps when I thought I had more than enough (I was only about halfway through the video). I may make a part 2 in a few days.

Erich Hartmann was certainly in a fighter unit in Arumba's video. In Your screenshot (which I failed to notice in the videos) You seem to be able to assign him to a JU88 unit. That would certainly imply one can move aces between units, or at least an ace from one unit to another unit without an ace. That would make it possible to move them from an outdated unit to a modern unit, if for some reason air units cannot upgrade their eqiupment. I agree he should not be the first German ace available.

I believe i read or saw in video sometime ago that creation of aces was a random chance based combat or some random event. is that correct?

If that is so, I hope we can set an earliest available/start date for a historic Ace.

A few new aces popped up in Arumba's video. They seemed to be random events (as long as You are at war and using Your airforce I presume).

Gamer,

That was good, but try to avoid the word 'uhm' when recording (particularly if you are looking to kick start a youtuber career). One other thing - music, that is protected by copy right laws, can get you into trouble with youtube.

But wouldn't that make it the number one thing you'll always try to beef up? I mean, I can see myself spending all my points on reliability and ignore the others if there is no cap or downside to it.

Actually you would not make reliability a priority if you have a large military industry. If a tank breaks down it just gets replaced from your tank pool.

Thanks, I have got to remember things like that. I am trying to keep the flow going, but I am not working from a script and I was filling time while thinking what to say next.

Yeah, I will have to watch what music I have playing while I am making a video.

Nailed it. The best part is the actual equipment on the map.

Now were a legitimate war game.

I though, really dont like the air tech tree.

A 109 doesnt "lead" to a 190. A TA-152, is...a 190.

Thats very confusing and annoying to someone familiar with the air war in world war two.

And yeah it shouldnt be Hartmann, it should be Udet. Ernst Udet. He was probably Germany's most famous pilot before the war. Possibly Dolfo....Adolf Galland.

Udet was too old to be a fighter pilot by 1936. So I think Galland who flew in Spain should one of the first Aces. Now if we are thinking Aces = Squadron commanders than maybe. I like the idea of Aces, but I miss Air Leaders.
Why? They never felt impactful. To me, they had less importance than land leaders, which is saying something.

I hope Air leaders would have the appropriate level of impact, but for me they add immersion. Yes, if you have a well developed Airforce and you take on a poor one you don't need Air leaders, but if things are equal (tech level, numbers & tactics) I would hope the leaders & experience would be the thing.

To me immersion is a big thing with a game like HoI and the other is decision making. Assigning leaders at all levels is part of that. The design decisions in HOI IV have removed some of that, when they IMO they should have improved the method of doing it instead.

Yeah Udet wasnt flying anymore by '36, but was still probably the most famous and influential airmen in Germany's arsenal, even though he kind of ignored when they asked him to help set criteria for Germany's new fighters. He really liked the P-36 design, calling the Hawk the finest aircraft in the sky. He was a dogfighter.

47EC43A4D7D344B7A2204B255BF57209.jpg

And since Richthofen was dead, going into 1936, he was infact Germany's most famous ace. Until Galland got his chops later that year and into '37. Udet had 62 kills and 19 probables under his belt.

And if youre trying to have someone represent good command and bonuses when attached to lead airgroups, certainly the first person to have coming into the game on Jan 1 1936, should be Udet.

Wever should be available until Jun of '36, but doesnt seem to be worth it for such a short time period where youll probably never use him anyways.

Late war id like to see Heinz Bier or Gunther Rall over the always go-to Nowotny. And of course Dolfo.

Galland would go flying in swimming trunks, because he was usually so blasted, the G forces would cause him to pee himself.

8473820476_c1b77224ee_b.jpg

Ol' Dolfo and his famous Keffiyeh around his neck, English cigar hanging from his lip, and floatation jacket. He couldnt swim.
