You know, I've been wondering one thing that's only barely been touched upon. Will there be a World War?
World War 1 can easily be considered the most important event to happen in the game's time period. Yet, in Vicky, if you started from the Grand Campaign, it didn't happen. In the late-game, things just stagnated and nothing interesting ever happened, and it was all very boring. Yet we kept getting all these techs pertaining to the war, including lots of "post-war" techs in Revolutions, and stuff like the Great Depression, despite there being no war. It was awfully silly, truth be told.
Now, I know what you're thinking, why should WWI be forced to happen if the circumstances aren't met? Well, I don't think World War 1 as it happened should actually happen, persay. What I really want is a cataclysmic Great War that lasts for several years and rages on across Europe and the rest of the world, and changes the face of the world as we know it. Maybe, instead of absolutely nothing happening in the end of the game, a trigger should go off after a certain date or whatever that causes nations to align themselves in a manner that creates more permanent power blocs as opposed to the normal simple temporary alliances from Vicky. The power blocs should be created dynamically based on the political climate in europe, and what ideologies each nation subscribes too. And eventually, the game should do something to spark a war between these nations sometime in the late '10s, early '20s.
I can't tell you exactly how it should be done, but I think a system like this should be in place. The second half of the game should be one big lead-up to a mighty, almost inevitable war. I would be really thrilled to hear that a system like this, or SOMETHING that causes the late game to be interesting is in the works.
Just my two cents. Was bored tonight and figured I'd throw in this idea.
