1. Does motorized infantry benefit from panzer leader(im thinking it doesnt)
2. Is motorized infantry considered a hard target(based on the casualties i take, im thinking it doesnt as well)
3. Does the patrol function for naval units work?(i use patrol and set waypoints, the naval stack doesnt continue on as i would like it to,thus, I think patrol is in essence, just the same as holding shift and setting way points w/o going thru the pop up box and selecting patrol)
4. Does blitzing give any bonuses to armor speed or attack?
5. When using naval units, are smaller ships really targeted first(i noticed that my destroyers were heavily damage, yet many of my bb's were damaged as well, though not as much.
6. Likewise, are fighter escorts targeted first when accompanying bombers?

No, they do not receive a benefit from panzer leader.

Motorized is a soft target.

I've never gotten it to work properly so I can't tell you if it works or not. I tend to annihilate my enemy's navy so patrolling is unimportant to me. That doesn't much help you in your question, however.

Supposedly, blitzing was supposed to allow shorter combats or some such thing so you could more easily exploit but in the few trials I have done I haven't noticed much of anything. I'll play around with it some and see if anything has changed.

I believe this is more due to the fact that destroyers have a lower defense rather than any preference in targetting. One thing I have noticed is damage tends to get lumped on just a couple of ships rather than evenly across the stack. I find this fairly accurate of naval battles so I personally have no problems with it.

I can't tell you here as I keep my bombers and fighters apart. Sorry.

@4: what blitzing does is that your panzers will keep moving while fighting. Hence once the battle is over (supposing you won) they will spend less time on reaching province #2 than if you were to order that movement after the battle (sometimes your panzers will even reach province #2 even before the battle is over).

@6: AFAIK airtargeting in HOI1 is totally random. In HOI2 however, escorts, take more hits than bombers.

The ship targetting thing changed for patch 1.06c, if you look in the release notes it states that 50% of the time the weakest target is attacked. The other issue of unbalanced damage is due to the different ship defence strengths. The majority of damage is done by attacks that exceed the targets defence (note that all attacks on a target are agregated for this). The high defence of battleships means that around 80% of damage is blocked whilst destroyers are taking the full hit and hence sinking.

Re Targetting weakest vessal

I have found the opposite, where a single Battleship is targetted over and over again until almost destroyed. Having said that though, this only occurs when my fleets meet the "Killer UNESCORTED? Convoys"

Killer convoys should do almost exactly the same damage to each ship in your fleet.

Reply to Kanitatian

Hi Kanitatian,

Yes, they do damage other ships in the fleet, but only slightly each time, but one capital ship is usauly singled out for special treatment. For example just last night I had a fleet of 12 ships made up of 2xBB, 6xCA and 4xDD. This fleet was parked in a sea zone, to guard my Marine amphibious landing. It consistantly took hits from unescorted convoys, whittling away at the orginisation of the fleet but in particular one of the Battleships which ended up with under 30% orginisation, which forced me to withdraw it, to protect it from outright loss.

This has happened to me on many occasions and I have posted about it in the past. When playing the USA I have even lost an Aircraft Carrier to this sort of gradual attrition. The only way around it is to keep checking your fleets and keep recycling the heavily damaged ones. The iriony is that there is not a single opposing capital ship in sight only unescorted transports. Definitely

Regards
Barry

Sorry, where I have mentioned orginisation read: "Strength"

2) Mech inf and Panzers are both considered to be hard targets in the game. Motor inf is a soft target. Panzer leaders affect hard targets (Pz and mech).

4) Naval patrol never worked in HOI. In EU2 it was very nice for setting intricate repeating patterns that ran forever until stopped. But it was never implemented in HOI.

5) Blitzkrieg is broken in 1.06 They made a change described incomprehensibly in the readme.txt that destroyed it. Previously you could blitz and move quickly into the next further province. But in 1.06 you actually move slower than if you just win the first battle and proceed with a second normal attack.
