Hi,

I've downloaded DH from Gamersgate (v. 1.01), tried to launch it... and I just run out of ideas to prevent this game from crashing every time I try to play it.

I've tried:
- reinstalling the game a couple of times (both v. 1.01 and 1.01.1);
- using the launcher with different settings (resolution, mods, sounds/music on/off and so on...);
- launching it using the exe file;
- switching compatibility modes (XP, Vista etc. etc.);
- installing it in different folders;

Basically, every time I try to start the game I immediately get kicked back to desktop with "the program stopped working" message. Always the same type of error.

All my drivers are up to date, I've never had any problems with any game/program before.

WIN 7 SP1, x64
4 GB RAM
core i7-2720QM
GeForce GT 550M

To run the game in Windowed mode you should set your desktop colors to 16-bit.
To avoid issues with Windows it is best to install the game in a folder that is outside Windows protection. "C:\Games\Darkest Hour" is the recommended location. Running the game as Administrator can solve some problems if the game is installed in Program Files or other protected by Windows location.
The Launcher needs MS's Frame Network 2.0 or newer (available as Update to Windows). If you don't have it the game can be started from Darkest Hour.exe directly (you have to edit settings.cfg in a text editor if you need to change a setting).

Thanks for a quick reply!

Just to make everything clear: I do not have any problems with the launcher itself - it is working fine. It's the game itself that crashes.

I did try installing the game in "C:\Games\Darkest Hour" folder - did not work for me either. I also tried running it as Administrator - nothing.

Basically, I tried every possible solution presented on this forum - all the tips posted above included. This is the first time I'm having problems with any sort of software on my computer and I really cannot think of anything in my current config that could make the game behave the way it does.

I have had the game crash problem every time there is a new patch.

My normal screen is 1920 X 1200. No matter what I set the game resolution at it crashes until I finally set my computer's screen at say 1024 X 768 and the game at the same 1024 X 768. Then it runs fine.

Next time I load the game and again have my computer screen set for 1920 X 1200 and set the game at 1024 X 768 or whatever it will run just fine and every time thereafter -- until a new patch comes along.

I don't get it! But that has always been my crash problem with DH that seems to fix it's self.
