Game won't load

Installed Rome Gold and 2.2 patch. Got Runtime error when trying to load game. Read the JIT sticky, so downloaded and ran Microsoft's 2005 redistribution app. Still would not load; kept getting the same Runtime error message. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling game, but still no luck. What else can I try?

I'm using XP Home with Service Pack 3.

That patch is known to fix that problem in pretty much every case. Did you reboot after installing it yet?

The above URL points to a Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) with a publish date of 9/16/2008.

If that fails too, maybe try a complete reinstall y of Rome, VV and 2.2.

Downloaded and ran the 2008 package. Still no use. I must have rebooted and did clean installs at least half a dozen times. Nothing worked. Unless someone else comes up with a possible solution to this problem, I'm going to have to write off the $$ I spent on this game. How frustrating!

Well I'm really sorry, this is a first I think. It is almost certainly a Windows problem of some sort. Is your XP patched up ? Run a windows repair?
