I'm thinking it could be resolution related. Could you change the desktop resolution to 1920*1080 and see if that works? From the looks if it the game is requesting it to be resized to that but then trying to use the native resolution.
 
Hi i cant get into the menu to change the resolution :p (since the game just starts as a blackscrenn), i changed the resolution in the prefs file (~/.config/unity3d/Obsidian Entertainment/Tyranny) cause i had a similiar problem with transport fever and that helped but sadly it didnt with tryranny: , it getsa overwritten after every start). anyway I found a workaround if i press shift and start the game from the explorer (not through steam) it will work ... but idk why...

btw.. great game so far.

Edit: I changed the settings now ingame and i can start the game all the time but not through steam (even if i disable steam overlay)

Thanks for the update! Didn't even dawn on me that you ofc couldn't change the resolution since the game didn't start ><. Its been a long day haha ;)!
A little odd that it won't start through Steam, are you running the .exe file directly instead?

According to the first log you sent, the problem appears to be a failure in the Steam Overlay itself.

ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/stefan/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64): ignored.

The gameoverlayrenderer.so file is the Steam Overlay library, and although you mentioned you tried to disable the overlay it's highly likely that Steam still attempts to load it prior to checking if it should be activated or not. The error "wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64" is interesting in that Tyranny only has a 32-bit executable, so loading a 64-bit overlay library probably just fails. I've never installed Steam on Linux so I don't know if there's a option for this, but is it possible you only installed 64-bit Steam support? If there's an option to install 32-bit Steam libraries that might fix the problem with starting the game through the Steam interface. The overlay won't try to load if you're not running through Steam, so that probably explains why you can run it directly without a problem.
