That probably would be better, unless you're willing to suffer defeats for the stories sake. A few broad updates will be fine, unless anything particularly interesting happens. It gets tiering to hear of tactical victory after victory, so I'd go for some broad front things.

Or you could have done what I did with the Fu Manchu series; play the bad guys and let the readers root for the noble heroes on the AI side who fight hoplessly against the unstoppable tidal wave of evil and darkness... (that would be me!:))

As has already been mentioned, I think the appropriate course of action depends on the style of AAR, and the over all goals.

For me I don't like to force the AI into certain actions because it is hard for me to play fair if I know the AI is moving his forces to province X. Instead if I feel the AI is not providing enough of a challenge, I simply give him more units. This serves 2 purposes:
1. It makes the AI stronger, and more likely to go on the offensive
2. It makes any offensive I make that much more difficult
Either way, improves the AAR.

If for example you are playing Britain, and the Germans aren't doing enough, give them an extra 30 subs to play with. Then you could write about an exciting war in the Atlantic. Another interesting twist would be to give the Germans V1 rockets early.

If you are playing as the USSR go ahead and up the model of the German tanks so they are vastly superior to your T34s.

If you are going against Japan, increase their IC

For me at least I find increasing the strength of the AI is the best means to make the game more competitive. Which in turn makes for a better AAR

I had to correct the crazy things that happened in CK over and over. I think the story, when I write it, will be fun. But you have to screw yourself over once in a while.

There are some ideas that you can use that haven't been done, although they are outliers, many if not most ideas have been done in some shape or resemblence.

Well...technically Snake's probably right. There are so many AARs most of the themes have been hit on at least once.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

Look at the scifi/fantasy or mystery genres. There's only so many ways you can put together knights, wizards and dragons. There's only so may ways you can commit a homicide. However people keep writing those books and doing well. Why? The ones that stand out put a new spin on things.
