Game too laggy - low FPS.

Hello guys, Im having this problem since England 1.25, if Im not mistaken. The game is too laggy/constant FPS dropping since 1444. Late game this get even worse and gets literally unplayable.

My PC isnt that bad and I have never had any problems with it: i5 4460, GTX 6GB, 16 RAM, Windows 8. And the game is installed on a SSD.

I can play CK2 late game no problems whatsoever. But when it comes to eu4, the game has this constant laggy aspect. Im currently on a League War, and FPS drops to 20-40 sometimes... In my last game as I was trying to get the Empire of Mann achievement, the late game became almost unplayable. Since wars were very big with a lot of soldier involved, I was getting around 10 FPS... I really dont know how I was able to finish that game, since it takes away all my desire to play the game.

So, of course I tried to do some things: My GPU drivers are all updated on the last version. I unsinstalled the game, re-installed, verified integrity of game files and tried to play again, with no sucess. Tried even the lowest resolution of the game, but the lag stayed literally the same. Currently Im playing with no mods, and even though I didnt use any graphical mods. Only Arumba shortcuts and such...

Anyway, I really dont know what else to do! Other Paradox games runs well for me, but after almost 2k hours, eu4 has become this laggy mess which is taking away my desire to play the game.

Something that usually helps is DxDiag. DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Try changing borderless to no in your settings file.

If this doesn't work, please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU) :
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

i just changed my 10 year ole laptop with winXP to a spanky new laptop with win 10,
except for the load time that is entirely down to hard drive performance,
it was much much smoother on win XP even on a machine several times lower spec

Ill annex the PC temperature, and also a screenshot in-game. At the top left you can see the FPS. Of course its not always like that, but its constantly dropping to that FPS. If I pause it sticks with stable 60 FPS. But with the game running and moving around the map, I get the FPS on the screenshot. On wars it get worse.

The initial AUXTIN3 reading of 127c is bogus of course. But then it seems to kick into reality, and hits 84c and 99c! WAY too high for any component. I don't know what that is, unfortunately, maybe PSU? Try other temp utilities like Speccy and GPU-Z .

Guys, Im bumping this thread because the problem persists. Updated to windows 10 and that was my only change since the day I created the thread. Every other paradox game runs relatively fine(Vic2, CK2). Late game lags a bit, but thats normal. But when it comes to eu4, as you can see it stutters since day1. I tried to remove all assets and stuff from the options but the problem persists. Maybe recording at 60fps wasnt a good showing, because my monitor is 144hz, and as you can see the FPS fluctuate a lot. If you guys want I can record at higher FPS. All different resolutions/windowed fullscreen and such lags just the same. Trust me, I have tried everything. Uninstalled and installed on a different HD, SSD. But its all the same.

Its such a shame because maybe thats my favorite game on my library, but I cant play it like that. In the past 6 months I played only 1 or 2 campaigns. So, if you guys can h elp me somehow, Id be very glad, because otherwise it will be the end of eu4 for me.

As you can see, when the game is paused, it works flawlessly. But when its running, the stutters begin. Even at speed 1. (You can look at the top left of the screen the FPS).

There is a game bug in trade companies that causes this, but I don't think that will affect you from day 1.

Tbh I dont think that this is the problem, because like I said its since day 1. Ill try to play on the New World when I get home, and see if the problem persists. But is there a way to stabilize the FPS? Am I doing something wrong? This cant be normal...

Ok guys. Did everything I could. Couldnt do anything to fix it. As far as I can tell, the game demands too much CPU. I disabled AIs on a game and although it didnt fix it 100%, it made it run way smoother. I checked my CPUs and the 3rd core was at 100%, while the other ones werent even at 50%.

The strange thing is that while I was playing with 144hz, the FPS kept fluctuating between 70 - 144 mostly. But when I set the refresh rate to 60Hz, the FPS kept fluctuating between 40 - 60. I really dont understand this. While at 144hz, if my FPS kept lock at 60, I suppose I could play it no problem, but when I "lock" the FPS to 60, it keeps fluctuating at a lower rate.

In GPU-Z you'd have to click on the Sensors tab to see the temps it detects.

But no sign in Speccy of the high temps we saw in Speedfan, not sure what to make of that. We don't see the PSU temps in there.

I focus on this because I frankly have no other ideas why this is affecting you!

I remember I saw it on the day. The tempo was around 60ºC.

And tbh I dont know what it might be. Vic2 has the same stuttering for me now. I dont know if its some monitor setting(I bought a new one). The FPS keeps fluctuating for no reason apparently.

Do you have GeForce Experience running and applying settings to these games? Try unloading it if so.

If G-sync is enabled try disabling it.

Tried with and without it. Pretty much the same stuff. I honestly dont know what it might be. I might format my PC on the future.. lets wait and see.
