Hi.
How many people are experiencing random crashes?
I just got the game, I expected few bugs here and there, but this is just way too much. Game freezes whole computer every 10min or so.

I don't believe this is just happening on my computer. I got pretty standard setup.
If paradox published any of their games in this state they would be crucified by the community.
Don't get me wrong. I like all the changes they put in the game, but this is simply unplayable.

In 1.07 there were lots of stability issues. But 1.08 works very stable on my computer and many other players can confirm a high degree of stability of 1.08. So there is no general problem with 1.08. Still there may be problems that occur under rare(?) combinations of hardware, drivers and software.

It depends on your computer - I can tell it from my own experience as I was recently forced to buy a new laptop. On my old (Vista) laptop, I had some crashes with AoD version 1.05 time to time, but since patch 1.08 - never, not a single one. And all that while playing the game often ten hours in a row and probably hundreds of hours in total. After a computer switch (my new laptop has Windows7), I have had some crashes again... I don't know exactly what is causing them and unfortunately I can't advise you either. I imagine it would be frustrating to find that you can't play the game you just bought. (As I have had also a perfectly reliable gaming experience with AoD, I'm more forgiving and wouldn't call the game buggy - I blame my new laptop.)

My experience is that v1.08 is the most stable version I have ever experienced. The game usually stays open 24/7 for weeks at a time - and never a crash.

There does remain a specific way that I can force a crash to happen. If pushing the cursor up to either top left or top right map corner - and pushing cursor further to try to get map to move faster than it can move - my game will then crash. I have had this same thing happen on every HoI game and every computer of the many different ones I've owned. The problem happens because of player mistake of "jamming" cursor into a corner when at maximum zoom setting. However your experience (nearly every 10 minutes) sounds like a general graphics card incompatibility issue or something more basic. I have Windows7.

Speaking about 1.08, I've never had a crash since I've installed the new patch. Your issues must then be connected to your system, otherwise I (and the majority of AoD players) would be experiencing frequent crashes as well, which in turn doesn't happen.

Check the state of your drivers, possible compatibility issues etc. but be assured that this is not a game related problem.

I also haven't had any crashes on AoD 1.08, 'vanilla' or modded. My computer is pretty decent for gaming, though. However I was even able to play 1.07 on my stone-age laptop with little to no crashes.

I just about never get crashes.

If I add too much custom music to the game crashes increase. If I play in a certain non-native video resolution I can cause crashes.

For people with a lot of crashes, try 1024 X 768 resolution (I normally play at 1280 X 1024 although native is 1920 X 1080 which does not crash either).

Bottom line -- crashes are mainly caused by video or audio issues -- which are related to computer. not game.

Update on game crashing

I had stated I never experienced game crashing.

But now that game has progressed to early 1943, it is crashing nearly EVERY time upon hitting Surrender. However, it NEVER crashes if I load any file save of 1936 to 1942. Nothing has changed with my computer or the game. I can only imagine that it is the much greater data in the later game years that is now starting to reveal "program limits". Crashing upon Surrender ("game has stopped working") is not a problem, but I am wondering if the crashes will start happening during actual play as the years advance?

Not much to contribute other than to say I can't recall ever having a crash in AoD with any Version. It's gotta be more PC related than game code.... complain to your PC company :p or get a new one.

I agree with you. And, as you know, I also stated earlier "never a crash". But it seems odd that I still never get a crash reloading any earlier files saves, but suddenly "game stopped working" every time I surrender on game that file save is past 1942.

No problem. I have gone back to May 10/40 when I had my Germany poised for a 7-day blitz of France. But I'm playing the UK trying to stop that blitz. And the game never crashes - even every time I surrender! :D

As a modder, I crash the game continuously, but that is because I modify the game files while the game is running - so it doesn´t count.
I can´t recall a crash in a regular game, either.

It´s actually amazing how stable the game is even if you do heavy modding.

I agree with you also. I said the same earlier - "108 is the most stable version I ever played". Just seems odd I experienced problem playing past 1942 and no problems playing up to 1941. I'm glad to have quit playing Germany which had reached 1942 since China was annexed, and what is left after having liberated Siberia? Oh yes, I forgot to do Sea Lion, but what the heck! I was getting tired of this "game stopped working" every time I closed down.

Now I switched to UK, it's only 1940 - and the game NEVER crashes.

I did not have many crashes with 1.07, but I had a few.

No crashes with 1.08, yet.

Then again I'm using a fairly new computer with hardware specs that are way overkill for this game.

My old machine, Athlon X2 with windows 7, would bomb out of the game every now and then, obviously mods make it worse.

My new Windows 8, Intel I5 ran great with no crashes at all for the first few weeks. All of a sudden, despite the absence of mods, it's gotten really bad , far worse than the old machine. Certain historic dates seem problematic, crashes come on average every 36 hours. I can avoid by switching to another country to get through the rough patch, but it really screws my game up. I often get an improvement by rebooting the PC (remember the days of windows 98, when you had to do that every couple hours?) so I suspected hardware issues and relaxed my memory timings (they were set to low latency/high speed as per the advertised specs of this performance RAM). Seemed to help at first now we're crashing again. I just want to finish my game :-s

Did you make a full test with your RAM ? It could be permanently damaged

No, but since the system runs 24/7 without bluescreening, and has played other games stably (admittedly , not in the past 3 weeks) I doubt it is a hardware issue, just clutching at straws. My job involves repairing pcs and laptops and I know just how nebulous such issues can be. Memory modules test faulty in one board, work fine in another. Work fine in one slot in one board, not in another, work ok on their own but don't like being paired with this other stick. Various software testers as well as a hardware DIMM tester giving the green light, yet the system bombing out of any 3d game within minutes till the component is swapped.

Sounds like your PC has a issue.

AOD is very CPU intense - there is no time where it can catch its breath like if it was a 3d game and its waiting for the GPU to do its thing.
If you PC cannot play games in a stable fashion i would try a burn in test.
SiSandra is a good base tool to test if the hardware os stable under higher loads.
