Not sure if this thread belongs here..... just posted it here because I'd like to play some much needed EU IV.
Dear Emperors, Kings, Dukes, Lord Protectors, Tyrants and other members of this awesome community, I've been a fan of Paradox games for some years now and I need your help, a couple days ago I bought a brand new screen for my custom built pc, an ASUS MG248 gaming monitor and ever since I started using it, Stellaris, EU IV and Hearts of Iron 4 have been running extremely slow at the start of the game only to get worse by mid/late game, I don't seem to have this problem on Cities: Skylines.
Now I understand that said games are very CPU intense, but I've never had an issue with these until very late game, it has gotten to the point where x5 speed on EU IV and HOI IV feel like speed x3 and Stellaris as speed x1. I have lowered graphic settings but doesn't feel like its working.
---------------------------------------------------
Current pc specs:
Intel I5 7600k 3.8ghz
Nvidia Gforce gtx 1060 (6gb)
16gb Ram
G1 Sniper B7 motherboard
1TB HDD hardrive
128 gb ssd hardrive
---------------------------------------------------
CPU temp idle: 35°C
GPU temp idle: 40°C
----------------------------------------------------
CPU temp in-game: 65-70°C
GPU temp in-game: 70°C
----------------------------------------------------
Any ideas? can't seem to find the issue, it all points to the screen while running 1920x1080 but I used to run at that resolution with my old crapy screen......
Much appreciated.

Double check your CPU usage while the game is running. It's very odd since you have a powerful CPU.

If your game is on the HDD- move it to the SSD- I know it doesn't exactly effect the game speed itself, but it could help with a completely fresh installation.

As said above, register your game [use 1st link below] to access the support sub-forum.

Aside from that, a new screen shouldn't cause such an issue.
I have a similar build to yours - though my CPU is even older [i5 750] and without a SSD - and I don't experience such a thing.

Have you changed configurations after plugging the new screen? It might be something in that direction.

Back in the old days overall game performance was tied to refresh rate. Low refresh rate meant high performance and vice-versa. You got 144Hz monitor. This shouldn't be the case with modern engines, but I'm not sure if Paradox games support refresh rate over 60Hz well. So force your computer to use 60Hz and check for results.

The games had no issue running on my 144Hz monitor @1440p when I had one, with a weaker CPU than OP.

There's no logical reason refresh rate should be tied oppositely to performance speed.
