We've seen an issue like this on any platform, where there's an empire that spans half the map that then explodes in civil war or rebellion. IOW the number of units in the game suddenly increases hugely. Does that describe the situation in this game?

I assume if you start the game at a later bookmark this does not happen right away?

And, you may as well try a full clean re-install and opt into the beta:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- opt into 2.2.1.1 in the Steam beta tab
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Thanks for the reply,
The start date doesn't matter, 200 years from any start date will slow down the game a lot
I tried to do clean installations many times, It doesn't seem to have any effect on the performance.
Concerning the civil war, i'm pretty sure that's not the case. the only empire that spans half the map is the Abbasids
and they've had both periods of peace and civil war. I didn't notice any performance drops during civil wars.

Sorry, it's not clear to me, have you tried the beta or not?

Let's check out your whole system. Please attach a dxdiag.txt and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Just wanting to add in that i'm having the exact same problem as you. However in my case disabling tress gave a slight performance boost, have you tried that aswell?
