I notice the most lag when scrolling the map or while interacting in the Diplomacy window. Trying to send a peace deal at the end of a war takes forever. This is a new game and only around 1550. Playing on game speed 3 seems to give me the "best" performance. I suspect that there is a memory leak somewhere.

Playing on game speed 3 seems to give me the "best" performance. I suspect that there is a memory leak somewhere.

I have exactly the same. Crolling map is painful especially on further zoom - out; also speed 3 is the fastest which is very weird :p

I don't know if it's just my machine, but when I select a unit with a lot of regiments in it, It seems to make the UI/Game Crawl. It's most noticeable during wars. Something to do with the selection code perhaps.

I think I'm seeing a slight case of this bug. Performance is worse and measurably so, but nowhere near as bad as after AoW before hotfixes. Happens right out of the gate with a new game, so no save to show.

Seems to be worst when zoomed in, though I'm not sure if that's just a general case of better performance when you can't see units.

Edit: I said measurable, so here are measurements. Time measured over the year 1445 in observer mode with speed 5, with ironman and autosaves disabled. This is my weaker rig so zoom matters quite a lot, maybe because of the GPU.

Zoomed in: 9.7s (1.11.3) vs. 7.9s (1.9.2) per month
Zoomed out: 6.4s (1.11.3) vs. 5.6s (1.9.2) per month

What don't you understand and why do you need a save in the sentence "the game is slower" ?

We have software that can profile what part of the game is using the most resources (CPU, GPU, memory, disk writes etc.)
HOWEVER, since we are not experiencing any noticeable performance degradation, whatever it is that is causing the degradation is probably not happening on our machines, and if it's not happening, the profiler is obviously not going to find it.

There's several possible explanations for us not noticing the degradation;
1) it's caused by a specific setup (hardware or software) that we don't have - unlikely given how widespread the problem seems to be, but I'm not scratching this out as a possible factor.
2) it's caused by specific events in the game happening - let's say it requires England to receive a colonial claim, then turn into Great Britain, then turn protestant - this is the primary explanation for which savegames would be useful, since it would allow us to *guarantee* that those events have happened.
3) it requires *specific* player interactions that are likely when you're playing the game "as normal", but that are more likely to be missed when we're running the game for profiling purposes (since we'll be spending at least some of our attention on other things, such as reading up on forum bug reports)
4) a combination of above factors.
5) other, unknown or un-thought of, factors

I am really fascinated by the reason of this sudden unexpected 1.10-1.11 slowdown. I hope Pdox guys will show up and say 'hah we had some insane bug causing 50 million unnecessary calculations and lag now it's OK' :( dreams

if we can find the circumstances in which those calculations were triggered, a silly bug like that would pretty much be the "ideal" case.

Thanks, not noticing nearly as much of a difference (if any), but it's another datapoint to work with.

Slow for me now as well. Feels like Crusader Kings II. Since I got Art of War a few weeks ago it slows down around 1600.

I guess I'm one of the few who hasn't experience any slowdowns? 1.11.3 feels the same as it did before Art of War update.

In my current game 1740 playing since very start 1444 as England, controls all of India via Protectorates+Vassals, colonies controlling almost all of USA, Canada and Australia, the whole south of half of Africa.

There isn't any slowdown unless I'am on speed 5, which I never run that high. Speeds 3 runs normal even during large wars with France, Austria, Poland, and Ottomans all involved, playing on Ironman end of month calculations/save takes roughly 1-2 seconds before continuing which is normal.

My rig isn't no where near top notch either.
Intel Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz, Windows 7
RAM 8GB, 64-bit
Graphics - Nvidia Geforce 550 updated to version 347 recently

I ended my Orissa game, can you use that save?
I experienced some severe slowdowns, but sometimes the game went back to the original 'fast' speed.

The most slowes I had was when Russia was occupying huge chuncks of Ottoman lands, or when I was fighting the Russians. It might have got something to do with Russia being at war with a great power?

can you get attachments working plz? That would make it easier for people to upload saves and such

Things that cause me lag:
When nationalist rebels break free and form a new country,
When a colonial nation wins independence and changes tags (like USA),
When a large country "breaks" and many new countries are formed,
When a large coalition war starts, and contiues to lag until war ends,
The first day of the month,
Most mods reduce game speed slightly (excluding visual mods)

Also, 1 month = 35 seconds (speed 5)

My PC Specs:
OS= Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CPU=AMD Athlon II X4 645 3.1 GHz (Quadcore)
GPU=AMD Radeon HD 4200
RAM=6 GB

I believe the issue is due to EU4 not making use of multicore cpus, for me 1 cpu is maxed out, the other 3 are less than 1/5 capicity. And each major update/DLC adds more things to be calculated, meaning more CPU usage.

Savegame of 1780 with GB (ironman), with about 2-4 days per sec on any speed

in the early game, speed was quite good with about 5 to 6 days a second on speed 3. but its 1780, playing as GB against an United HRE, and the lag is just umberable, its pretty much 2-3 days per sec on any speed!!

my specs:

Windows 8.1 64bits

intel core i5-3230M 2.6 GHz

8 GB RAM

AMD Radeon HD 7600M

more specifics on the CPU: Intel Ark
As you can see, while its a old model, its quite a good one.

I have all DLCs except El dorado.

When the game is Paused I can move the Map freely. but once moving the "shuter" is just to much.

ALso, should I post this here or on the bug forums?

I noticed it in a 1.10 --> 1.11 game where it was really a slideshow at end-game (couldn't handle over speed 2 and was choppy there, where typically I can run on speed 4 w/o slowdown all game). I'll try to see how a 1.11 save runs later on once I get there and will post a save if it is slowing down on me.

Thanks Forza for the explanation of what the save game can do. I knew why you would need them but it's always nice when someone takes time to explain those things.

I'm running an observer game to try to get a save. I had an observer game running slow enough a week or so ago that I gave up on it. how much slowdown is expected though? In 1444 I was stopwatching months at right about 5.6 seconds. By 1471 was 7.1 seconds and 1492 and I'm up to 12.9 seconds. How much slowdown would you like in the save?

Yeah, PLEASE look into adding proper, working multi-core support. EUIV, once the game progresses, is one of the slowest games in my library. Was so even before 1.11, but right now it's just... Worse.
