I've noticed the game plays a lot slower since the new DLC was released. It's just a general performance degradation as more features have been added to the game

So basically you are saying adding 900 new provinces and 100 new countries was OK for performance in 1.8, adding 365757382 things before El Dorado was OK, and then suddenly release of El Dorado - with a bunch of events and new buttons (don't get me wrong it's awesome dlc) suddenly caused ''general performance degradation''? :D

Unfortunately, I still haven't found any leads on the issue happening on our end, trying a variety of countries, DLC setups, Ironman/no Ironman, etc. etc.

And from the variety of responses here, it doesn't seem any of these questions are a particular lead towards the issue either.

On the bright side, a number of you are reporting that the issue persists after a reload, which should mean that savegames might help us track down the problem.

So if any of you have the savegames available, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could upload them and link me to them. (if it's a cloud save, see here for instructions on how to retrieve them)

Just a quick thought - this may be a really stupid thought and has probably already been tried - however...Have you guys tried to recreate this issue in a normal environment? Say A normal instance of steam with all the dlc installed, going through the updates and hotfixes to the current state of the game. Restarting steam a few times. Starting a game. Quitting. Restarting steam a few more times and then playing for a few hundred years? I just want to see if we can recreate the same issue on your end.

What don't you understand and why do you need a save in the sentence "the game is slower" ?
Means you brought us another DLC wich we payed 15$, without working on its global performance.
I dont know what to do i'm not a dev, JUST MAKE IT MORE PERFORMANT

sometimes the save files themselves lag the game, not the game itself, this has happened before in the past

thank you lucas but when i spend more than 80$ in a game i expect savefiles won't slow down its performances

you should expect differently, sad to say but Paradox doesn't have the "never buy day 1" joke for no reason. Still better off then it was back in the old days though *shudder*

Well ofc top tier pcs will have very little problems, but if you try the game in an average pc you ll see the difference... Since I still continue my games from AoW and play ED as well, I pretty much notice it's slower permanently.

I'm playing my first 1.11 game right now and don't notice any performance differences so far (Ironman on, i7 920@3GHz, 6GB RAM, GTX 780, Win7 x64, A-DATA SSD).

Some kind of benchmark function would be helpful, performance threads pop up with almost every patch. Having some objective data points to compare would be nice.

Unfortunately, some people with great specs have been experiencing this issue. It does not seem to be hardware specific. I first noticed the slowdown from AoW to ED as well through continued games.

So lets look at where we stand right now:

A. Saved Games - Check, possibly save game bloat?
B. Some experience slowness starting in 1600s, 1700s or during big wars. Could be save game bloat except -
C. Permanent Slowness - It could start right away from a new game. Could it be hardware related?
D. Happens on both high end and average hardware. Some machines aren't effected at all, doesn't seem to make a difference
E. When did this all begin? Some time around 10.1 and worsened as hotfixes were added.
F. Fresh Installs of 10.1 and 11.1 seem to help for a very brief period for some, but not others
G. Sporadic and random speed changes - random lag, some times not. Could be during battles, wars, events, too many processes.
H. Any specific country? Nope, doesn't seem to make a difference for people.
I. Game speeds have slowed for people experiencing the issue. IE. 5 to 4, 4 to 3, etc.

Thoughts?

I think this doesn't have much to do with the specs of your PC, there is something in the game causing serious problems.
The differences are realy noticable, the game runs 10-20 times slower on my PC. (Intel i7-4790k @4 Ghz, 8GB RAM, GTX 970, SSD, Win8 x64)

I had no problems with 1.10, it started when I played my 1.10 save on the 1.11 version.

I posted this in another thread:

Strange it works like that for you...

I play a modded version of EU4 (Extended Timeline + 2 other mods + graphics mod + my own mod) + every single DLC on the store, all in all adding hundreds of extra tags and provinces to the base game. I have it on Maximum graphics, nothing is short of maximum. I have played a campaign from 1235 to 2028 and the late game lag was minimal.
If there were no big wars around involving the world (yes I had WW1 and WW2 happen, they were lagfests) I'd have:
About 10 days per second on Speed 5 but a bit laggy when moving around the map if it was not paused
About 2 seconds per autosave.

I don't know too much about my specs but definitely 8GB RAM and Intel i5 processor is all I know. So, if it works fine for me in 2028 with extreme graphics and tons of extra info crammed into the game from all these mods then surely it must depend on people's computers?

+1111 for post quality

I am really fascinated by the reason of this sudden unexpected 1.10-1.11 slowdown. I hope Pdox guys will show up and say 'hah we had some insane bug causing 50 million unnecessary calculations and lag now it's OK' :( dreams

Sorry for being a downer, but I noticed slowness even at the start of the game. This is the first time performance for EU4 has been hit so badly for me. You'd think AoW would have more of an effect on performance, but apparently El Dorado really did it in.
