616 hours in EUIV, 90% of it using this config.

Do the slowdowns persist after a save/quit/restart ?
1. I must quit the game for 10 minutes, then its back to normal.

Are the slowdowns "permanent" after a certain time, or does it get better again later?
2. After 30 mins of playing, even not unpausing the game become clumsy and laggy.

Are you noticing the issue playing Ironman, non-Ironman, both?
2. Only playing non-ironman

Gameplay wise, is there anything you noticed? e.g. big wars, playing in Europe, not in Europe?
3. Nothing unusual.

I know im using laptop, but this laptop runs Paradox games flawlessy. Its normal for me that after 2 hours of playing EuIV i need to take 10 minutes break, cause laptop is getting hot. Since 1.10 my Laptop starts to burn like hell after 10 minutes, after 30 minutes 1 day is 5 seconds on max speed, and every 1st is 10-15 seconds, UI starts to be very laggy. started recenlty. Dont have this problem in CKII or Hoi, so its EUIV related. I can start euiv, keep it paused, and after 30 minutes when i start, the game is unplayable slow. I tried to tweak settings down - zero gain. Game starts as always - super fast and responsive, after a short time - its like im playing some ultra demending fps...

Desktop user - 8 core AMD, 32GB RAM, ATI 7970 @ 1920x1200.

1. When slowdowns occur, they're pretty consistent.

2. It can get better again.

3. Only playing ironman at the moment.

4. Big wars, for me. Was fighting Ottomans as Commonwealth with Austria as ally in mid 1600s. About 200k units on either side. After stackwiping them a few times, the game became a slideshow. Part of it was probably related to the massive hiring/recruiting by the Ottomans, and the constant stream of dozens of 1k units of theirs flooding through my land in a desperate attempt to get to Scandinavia for whatever reason (they really wanted to siege my vassal Denmark and take my Norwegian holdings).

In the past, late game wars were a little slow, but bearable. This was something I hadn't witnessed before. A reload did not fix (it actually crashed mid war).

Hi!

Do the slowdowns persist after a save/quit/restart ? On save/exit to menu yes, if I quit the game the game return at the standard speed.
Are the slowdowns "permanent" after a certain time, or does it get better again later? Permanent
Are you noticing the issue playing Ironman, non-Ironman, both? I only play Ironman.
Gameplay wise, is there anything you noticed? e.g. big wars, playing in Europe, not in Europe? Europe, typically during a big-war since the beginning of 1700.

I have 16gb RAM in my Macbook Pro and it ran EUIV like a beast until the slow down occurred with 10.1. I don't believe it has anything to do with people's hardware if they are above the recommended hardware, which seems to be everyone's issue here. I really don't think it has anything to do with the hardware.

This is how you know there is a problem. High end gaming rigs shouldn't be having any issues with this game, but its happening :(

Here's my rig:
Code:

Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme4
Chipset: Intel C600/X79 (Patsburg)
Memory: 32768 MBytes @ 1200 MHz, 11.0-13-13-31

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, 3072 MB GDDR5 SDRAM

And I have issues. Despite the SSD for games, the overkill 2400 mhz ram, the overkill hexcore processor, the game runs poorly.

@Arumba

I think we can rule out Hardware here. We have Windows and OSX, 4GB to 32GB of RAM, SSDs and standard HDs...We are all over the map on hardware and it hasn't made a difference. The problem persists regardless.

mother of god i play this game with 4gb ram and you complain on performance

One long term problem this game has (and will continue to have) is that it's single threaded, meaning that it can only use one CPU core at a time. A lot of CPUs out there, like mine, will consequently get little to no difference on speeds 4 and 5. Sometimes no difference between 3 and 4. The amount of RAM isn't really the deciding factor in the performance of the game - it's more to do with the speed of a single core.

That said, even high end CPUs can get bogged down by AI loops and the like, which is a potential issue here.

I tried starting as Austria in the last bookmark and an year passes for about a minute which is pretty normal for me for this period .
If this helps my system is: 8 GB RAM, i7 4GHz and a 3 GB R9 280X and I tested it without any mods.

I have played one long Prester John game since Eldorado and I have had slowdowns on and off. Since I started taking note, they have mostly been associated with big wars and restarts have not helped. Sometimes it feels like disabling graphic mods helps, but sometimes it doesn't. They allways go away after a while and I have not had them in all my big wars either.

I noticed some slowdown after the last couple hotfixes as well. Early 1500s, playing in east Asia, no Ironman. It's not unplayably slow, but it's notably slower than before the updates; I'm bumping speed up by 1 from where I used to keep it for things (used to do 2 wartime 3 peacetime, now 3 wartime 4 peacetime). Ming imploded into a bunch of tags, but otherwise things look normal across the world.

1) Yes
2) started around 1620 in game and around saturday-sunday 7th-8th march in real time
3)Ironman save started in 1.10.0 (el-dorado release patch i think)
4)Worse in big wars

The new exploration mechanic may be the cause, it may have put more strain on one of your cores. My game runs about the same as it did before, but mine already ran slow.

You could also try these mods, they might help increase your speed.

I don't have el dorado so therefore i do not have the new exploration mechanic and my game still runs slow

Well the game always tends to slow down for me in the late game, but it is getting pretty bad around 1600.

Had a minor war against Muscovy(5 prov) against my vassals and I, game lagged up pretty bad. Not to long later I had a major war against the Ottomans and it slowed just about as bad.(allies for both sides) A war 15 years or so later was even worse.(allies for both sides)

This is Ironman.

Unfortunately, I still haven't found any leads on the issue happening on our end, trying a variety of countries, DLC setups, Ironman/no Ironman, etc. etc.

And from the variety of responses here, it doesn't seem any of these questions are a particular lead towards the issue either.

On the bright side, a number of you are reporting that the issue persists after a reload, which should mean that savegames might help us track down the problem.

So if any of you have the savegames available, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could upload them and link me to them. (if it's a cloud save, see here for instructions on how to retrieve them)

I missed patch 1.9.2. I don't like the game now...the updates are kind of useless imo. They should make another AOW (changing the entire gameplay system). El Dorado just seems too random.

And yes, the game is so slow now.

I've noticed the game plays a lot slower since the new DLC was released. No specific slow-downs really, just everything takes longer to happen. It's just a general performance degradation as more features have been added to the game.

My specs;

EUIV Installed on Samsung 240 EVO SSD.
