Now that we will have the Observer mode, which is a great thing. The first thing i thought when watching the stream is : This should totally be part of a game Replay feature !
The purpose of such a feature, even if i doubt EU4 will be featured in eSport competition anytime soon, is multi-layered :
- Sharing replays with the community : So that people can share their best game and how they managed to build their awesome Empire. I would have literally paid to have the replay of DDR Jack Rukyuan world conquest
- Easier video-casting : Well this is kinda a given. It's kinda hard to comment on your own games in several cases : If you play solo your either limited to your country view as you have to record while you play and you can miss interesting stuff happening as they unfolds. If you play multiplayer you have to get a dedicated person to record what happens and comment on it as the game is being played. That's one player less in the game !
- Better AARs : And i'll be honest, this is the main reason i suggest the feature : it's annoying you can't rewind you game to take a particular screenshot of a specific battle or event you missed, analyze the context of the game etc. so that you're not forced to write your AAR, and take all the screenshots etc. as play but that you can do all of this after you're done playing. This is especially true if you ever attempted to write a multiplayer AAR, if you're too much into the game, you miss all the good stuff and you can never go back.
I realize this is not necessary easy to make such a feature (DLC?) but IMO it would greatly improve what you can do with EU4 (and other PDS games) on the community side
