Did a clean install, restarted my computer, no mods. Game freezes regardless of whether it's fullscreen or windowed. Getting this issue about every half hour. The error file from my documents folder is attached.

The game freezes, and I have to alt-tab to close it.

I think it's a bug but someone over there told me to post here, instead.

From that log file there's either a game bug, a corrupted save, or there are broken mods in use.

But I doubt any of those are related to your performance problem, which sounds exactly like overheating.
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 20 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

System & DxDiag are attached along with settings. Error is what is attached above.

No mods. Not a corrupted save, this is over multiple save files with a clean reinstall.

I'll run a temp check when I load the game up again tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if it was overheating, I suppose, but I am getting the same error in the error log I attached in my first post every time the game freezes.

Well, the game disagrees with you!
[07:09:06][army.cpp:314]: Broken Save: Army 70 parent Pop 393 doesn't remember them. Adding Army to the pop, this might create OOS
[07:09:06][army.cpp:314]: Broken Save: Army 83 parent Pop 406 doesn't remember them. Adding Army to the pop, this might create OOS
But as I say that's unlikely to cause performance problems like you describe. It may be causing the AppHangB1 entries for stellaris.exe we see in that dxdiag though.

Right click on stellaris.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

Error log from this morning is attached. Ran with clean save file (started a new game). Game ran a little over an hour before freezing up.

Temp was between 60 & 70 C while the game was running. Which seems hot to me. I guess I will pick up a cooling tray!

Did not run it in full screen instead of borderless windowed. I can try that next. Already turned VSync off & set the frame rate. Disabling full screen optimizations led to me getting a black screen while game was running.

Typically problems don't start to 80c, but there's certainly no harm if getting better cooling! If this is a laptop, make sure all its air vents are free of dist - use a compressed air can to blow them out.

If there are no mods in use now, that error log shows a definite problem. Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new galaxy - NOT any existing one

Let us know if that helps.
