It may help if you play with Historical Focusses and know what all the countries will most likely do. Other than that, no, not really. Its a game after all, and knowledge of actual history doesn't exactly help you in EU4 as well. Knowldege of the historical event files is another story.
I mean I don't know why but when I'm playing EU I try to make a bunch of Latin Medieval Infantry and I'm somewhat comparing it to Age of Empires, so I don't really know what exactly is happening there. I also have trouble with the interface and researching things, but I'm not sure whether I've set anything up or not. At least with WW2 I know what radar is, what a Spitfire is, etc.
My experiences with the steam forums are bad. Like really bad. They seem to be mostly filled with raging, whining and impatient people, at least a lot more than you will see here. I personally don't bother looking there for any game ever. The Paradox forums are probably as civilised as a place in the internet where nearly everyone is able to join can be
Fair enough; as you can see I don't exactly make a lot of posts here but I was looking forward to HOI4 and didn't feel like posting on Steam for it.
The carrier variants of these planes are indicated by the symbol in the top right corner of each aircraft type in the research tree and have different names.
However, there already was complaint about how the naming could be better and that the wrong units are applied to the wrong place. But you can make your own variants and name them however you want, so that shouldn't be too bad.
So I guess what you're saying is that my 1939 era carrier fighters are going to act like Wildcats but look like P-40s? And using the naming system I can basically rename these so-called naval P-40s to whatever I want?
...so I guess that means I can rename my Soviet Yak-9s to be the PAK FA and the game won't care?
If that's the case having some kind of option to change the portrait so it makes more sense would be nice, but I imagine it's too late in development for that.
