My friend has hoi4 on the xbox game pass for pc, and i have it on steam. When we tried to play together it didn't find the game and when directly searching for server ip, the game crashed. Why cant we play together? Did we do something wrong or is it impossible for some reason?

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
It is impossible because the Steam version relies on Steam infrastructure for multiplayer support. I don't know how the Microsoft store version works, but in any case the two versions are currently incompatible.
