Game Painfully Slow

Hi,

I have spent quite a few months trying to fix this. But I now think I could do with some official help!!!! My issue does not seem to be the same as others (long game time). Ever since the Indian DLC my game has become incredibly laggy (even when paused). Clicking between windows is slow, map scrolling is slow. This was never the case before. I have resorted to using the flat mods to simplify the graphics, but have now purchased Charlemange DLC and it is even slower than before. Granted that my laptop is not THE fastest, but it has no issue in running latest titles at medium settings. My frustration I guess stems from the fact that the game ran perfectly fine for most of its life until purchasing that DLC.

Any hints and tips would be very much appreciated, (I have tried nearly everything on these boards)

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Your Intel driver has a bogus date on it

which I've never seen before. Same with the sound driver. Did they come with your machine, or you've updated from somewhere?

Anyway see if Asustek have a newer one for you, if not you'll have to do a manual install from the Intel site.

If it refuses to install (ie Sony have restricted you to their drivers, not the generic Intel ones) you’ll need to use the .zip version

[Intel have their own instructions for this process, but they are old and only mention XP - probably can still be made to work though, with some tweaks]

That aside, make sure the game is using your nVidia card not the Intel - that would explain the problem, actually. In the nVidia Control Panel, 3D Settings, force ck2game.exe onto the nVidia.

Also your checksum is wrong - was that take while a Mod was loaded? If so load the game with no Mods active and see if you get QEVO in the main game menu screen, as you should. If you get anything else, do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Thanks. I have followed all of the above. Have updated my drivers, re-installed (Cleanly), definitely assigned to my NVidia Card etc, etc and still it is slow.

I have now tuned my laptop to as far as my knowledge could, ran countless registry cleanups (CC Cleaner), changed my laptop appearance so that it now resembles Win95, checked for MalWare, Viruses etc, etc!

Downloaded Razer Cortex (worth a try!) and ran it through that, but nope still slow.

I find one thing very curious many of the posts on here say that when they are paused it is not slow for them, for me that is not the case, games starts perfectly, I dont even click play and yep still pretty fast clicking into different parts of the UI etc, still ok, but then about after 5 mins (note I have not pressed play once) or done much at all, it begins to crawl. Mouse cursor slows, zooming in and out verrrrry slow, windows take longer to open etc. Sometimes however I can usually tell if it is not worth trying to play when on the Period selection screen how long the text on the period and characters takes to fade in, sometimes it faaaaaades in reaaallly sloooow.

Getting at my wits end, I may try to vaccum out the fans etc and see (you never know!). But right now it is making the game unplayable (yes I can play, but barely!) and what is more frustrating that that before Raja's of India I had no problems! And Charlemange has taken it to Mach -80.2 whereas pre this two expansions it was flying at Lockheed Blackbird style!!!!

Any more suggestions would be very, very welcome!

P.S. The only things I couldnt update or understand from what you posted above was updating my sound driver, my laptop tells me all is fine (a lie I'm sure!). So Didnt quite know where to go for that!

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play. If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

I downloaded the beta patch and it's bought it back to a playable state for me, I'm not sure what the changes were in the patch but I am thankful for them. Give that a try Edmund.
