Subject line says it all. I was playing as a patrician in Amalfi on ironman mode from TOG start date. My doge had rebelled against the byzantine empire and lost, and I was worried the empress would revoke his duchy and destroy the republic (Amalfi is the last duchy level title that hasn't been revoked and handed to a bologomist) so I pressed my claim on the republic and won. When the war ended, I got the game over screen saying that I had become a republic and thats a game over.
