I like the idea to disable habitats, there definitely needs to be more custom play through options in general but disabling habitats would be a nice start :)

i play only iron-man
then deal with the habitats

making it so they are disabled would cause other issues as sometimes that is literally the only way to get "planets" to live on (especially in a game like yours where habitable worlds is rather low)

or if empires get stuck in between other empires with no way to expand

honestly with the state the game is in at the moment modding is practically mandatory if you want an ai that works. i don't really understand why people would play ironman since reloading the game fixes a lot of the crazier bugs(invincible fleet to name a particularly bad one.

Some of us are still achievement hunting. And OP is asking for a game option, not to remove them entirely. Options are just that, optional. They don't detract from your game experience.

The one technical issue is that there is one specific origin that depends on habitats and there is no mechanism for a game option to take into account whether the player empire or a forced to spawn empire has said origin.

New content is already separated into two categories:
- new features and mechanisms that are integrated into core game for free;
- added features that use and benefit from this newly integrated content, for a price (DLC).

Perhaps there could be a third category:
- added features that belong to the DLC, and can be toggled at game start.

However, designers would have to decide which content should be mandatory, and which one should be optionnal!
Titans? Colossus? Which new crisis? Which ascension? Which megastructure? Which ...

I'm not sure they don't have other things to think about, but it could be worth to have more choice during game creation.

The reason this even happens is because resource control in this game is non existent. If special resources were bound only to the map and not something you could buy in unlimited quantities from the market or use magical alchemy buildings to create it would seriously dampen habitat spam if not all spam in this game

it isn't a special resource though

it requires influence and alloys

yes you can find alloys on planets to mine, but you generally get it from foundries on your worlds

if they made it so you could only find alloy in space it would break the game (unless they heavy buffed the amount of alloy you can find in a space system, cause i think the most i've ever seen in one system was 5). they would also need to make it so almost every system would give out alloy

because that means you'd never be able to have a super big fleet unless the above is true [and even then i'm not sure how big of a fleet you could make]

Totally agree. Habitats are not fun and AI spams them like crazy.

I wish there was an option to disable them.
