This, unfortunately.

Though I did make one observation recently:

I started up a game on the biggest possible map and played for several hours on max speed, no slowdown, but when I saved and quit, then loaded the next day, the game only ran at half speed from that point on.

Yeah, you're right, I have the same experience with quit and load.

Wow, logged out from paradox account and game now runs smooth!

Confirmed. Had an old save file from 2400. Had to play on fastest and was getting a tick a second. By logging out of the paradox account and playing through Steam it jumped to about 2.5 ticks per second on fastest.

If you experience significant performance drop with Paradox Sign In and Steam running, can you compare your Net Traffic while idle on Desktop with one while playing Stellaris (Sign In and Steam "on")?

I recently remembered hearing (several years ago) about Stellaris and EUIV "spamming" net channel if they cannot establish proper connection with PDox/Steam services (people theorized issues with Account Synchronization and other data gathering), filling it to the point there it affected overall machine performance.

Can be this *shrugs*

I DO experience significance performance drop with Paradox Sign In and Steam running, and THANKS to this thread I discovered that it's caused by this issue.

Last night I logged out of PDX account from the Stellaris launcher, and my loading times of the game, the simple boot, passed from nearly 2 minutes to 20 rough seconds, on my i7 2600k (4.5Ghz OC) and also in game performance improved.

I'll try to make a comparison of the net traffic, seeing also if the process generates more traffic with and without the log-in to provide more data here so they can analyze.

In the meantime, thansk to you all posters and OP!

Found this thread, tried it out with both making my mods in the mod folder "read-only".
Started the game through the .exe file, and logged out of paradox account.

Now my 1000 star galaxy runs at least with 2x.
Before this I had the lag in which 1 day in-game is like 3-5 seconds.
Now I have 10 days in-game in 5 seconds.

It might be steam overlay.

I think I may have posted this in the thread before, but I'll say it anyways, I can confirm I've had at least a dozen cases minimum where disabling steam overlay has solved various issues, generally stuttering, freezing or other instability/performance problem.

I suspect it has a tendency to somehow interfere with games' performance in certain cases.

Tested it myself, not working for me. :(

Tested with the same save, with and without steam (with and without overlay), and pdx acc log in/out, etc... in every possible way I could think of. No change. What was the way worked for you guys?

On a late game 1K stars save (2450ish) I can confirm that running the game while signed out of PDX is a little smoother.
However running it from the game folder while steam is closed somewhat makes it run slower for me.

Does anyone know how to permanently log out from PDX so I don't have to log out every time I run the launcher?

On another note, anyone knows of any other good threads to help me maximize the use of my CPU by the game? Currently I have 18 fps when zoomed out in the galaxy map, with roughly 1day/sec on fastest and the game only uses 15% of my relatively decent CPU (laptop i7 3630QM 2.4GHz), and a measly 2-3 fps when I select a big fleet (250B/250C) with the same 15% CPU usage!

Not entirely related but it could be useful for people who have not so good laptops/desktops: I started using a mod which removed the lines from every planet around the star it's orbiting and also the indicators of the edges of each system. Together with some other modifications this allowed my rather bad laptop to go quite quick in the early game (don't know how it would be in mid to late game yet) but at least it's faster and it lags less. Might be useful if you want to speed up the early game.

With mods, if i understand right and before i screw up my entire game. You go to the workshop folder find the right folder that contains the mods for Stellaris you grab the mods you want to run and than unrar/winzip the content directly into the Stellaris folder where it ,will overwrite existing things/add more files? And if you do this and want to still run it trough steam than i assume the game is broken? or you at the very least need to repair game before you can play with out mods, or other mods?

Or would it just be smarter to copy the game to a second location and than trough the files into that one and start that one up for the specific mod you want to run?

So i tried coping the game unraring the New Horizons mod files directly into it, that part does work, i start the game with my task manger and logt out of paradox, but honestly i can't tell any difference. Either i am doing something wrong, or this mod is just to insane to really get much of a increase with.

Not sure why we are discussing mod installation issues in this thread. Please contact the mod author in the User Mods forum here or the Steam Workshop. Thanks.

I put stellaris down for the last to versions and the lag has gotten worse. Once I hit 100k fleet power I can't even watch the ships fight. Just launched my game directly and no more lag. This should be a sticky.

Not sure why we are discussing mod installation issues in this thread. Please contact the mod author in the User Mods forum here or the Steam Workshop. Thanks.

Cause im trying to get my "modded" game to run faster using this method and as other people already talked about it i was merely trying to confirm on how to get it to work using this method. I understood how to get this method to work, i was just unsure on how to do it so the game also runs the mod with it, which i got to work but it didn't seem to improve anything and since everyone (with or without mods) had going by the comments great results i was wondering if its the mod i'm using or if i might have done something wrong.

Right now im just waiting for the base game to go 2.0 and possibly try this method if i run a large map (unmodded) and it will start stuttering. But for now i just like to know if i messed up the "method" or its simply this massive ass mod that regardless is going to stutter.
And yes i also asked about it on steam but i haven't seen any topic on steam suggesting this method so asking about that in specific wouldn't result in alot of answers i fear.
