I don´t know if it is even moddable, but how cool would it be if rulers could name their child after people that are in good relations with.
Maybe this could be a low probability option, after picking the names of parents or grandparents.

SO GUYS... while I do think it's awesome that we're trying to get this modded now... what if the release files are different? We know that many of the rules and modifiers are different from the demo to the most recent betas.

I just don't want a lot of hard work to be wasted...

Side note: Any thoughts on mercenaries? I feel like they are a bit OP in the demo, should we lower their number and size a bit?

I say just jack up their price. In the War of Five Kings, we see mercenaries used, but they're invariably an enormous financial effort.

Well, if it helps allay your concerns, Johan or King mentioned in one of the threads today that merc costs are halved in the demo. I will try and dig up the quote.

Mercs are half as expensive as they should be in the demo.

A small correction about that list: We are not doing anything with the lands beyond the Wall for now. That will wait until we make the "Night's Watch expansion" (AKA Mance's Ambition) :)

Things to do at the moment:

  1. Complete the Google Doc
    1. Fill up as many baronies as possible, from all types (particularily cities and castles; septs should be rarer).
    2. Define all duchies.
  2. Port Grell's data to the new engine
    1. Update character list, fixing any incompatibilities.
    2. Create all dinasties
    3. Define all the titles in the correct format (needs a completed Google Doc).
    4. Give all titles to the right characters
  3. Define common values
    1. Cultures: Which ones?
    2. Religions

Religions:

I think we more or less have all religions figured out:
- The Old Gods (tag: old_gods)
- The Seven (tag: the_seven)
- The Drowned God (tag: drowned_god)
- R'hllor (tag: rhllor)

We also have to define their religious group. How about putting the first two in the "westeros_religion" group and then putting the other two in separate groups?


Cultures

There are two schools of thought on this one. The first proposes to make each region into a different culture, and then add some more for some particular places that might warrant it (crannogmen, etc). It would look like this (please correct any mistake I might have made):

There are a few more questions to answer before continuing. We seem to like the idea to use the construction of the Wall as year 0, but there's a problem with it for the moment: Since the demo won't let us play after 1086, we won't be able to test any changes until the full game is out. Should we keep the date and leave everything untested, or should we pick an earlier start date and then change it later?

And since I'll make the map available very soon, I need to make sure everything is ok with it, because once everybody has a copy I won't be changing anything until we consolidate all our work (it's important to make sure everybody has the same version). If you want to propose any changes to the current province layout, this is your last chance! :D Use the Google Doc to see the provinces. The map is almost the same from page 50, with Shatterstone and Knife's Point deleted and a few changes beyond the wall that don't really affect us at the moment (I deleted two more provinces up there).

Please, guys, give your opinions. We must reach a consensus before doing any more work. When we have, I'll post the corresponding culture and religion files and we can all be on the same page here. Basically, we need to answer the following questions:

1. Do you agree with the religious setup proposed above?
2. Which way to represent cultures do you prefer? Most pros and cons for each option have been discussed in the last two pages or so.
3. Which start date should we use for now?
4. Any last changes to provinces?

Absolutely no clue, haven't changed any so far in my work, waiting for some kind of consensus, and completely lacking an opinion, though I do kind of like the option for at least having the original Targyeren invasion within' possible time line, for simplicity of editing I guess I'm most in favor of 1000+ A.L. (which should for most part sit within the original timeframe in CK2 too, so it'll ensure no mishaps due to some silly engine thingy)
4. Sadly I have actually never paid THAT much attention to the map while reading I'm afraid any changes that might come up, will only come up once I get far enough to comment on incorporating the families into their seats, but I'll just trust you have done good job so far on getting these about right...

1. Yes (given that I'm fairly sure it's trivial to swap religions between religion groups)
2. First approach (given that it's much easier to reduce culture penalties, or even to consolidate many cultures into one, than to decide later to split up people into different cultures)
3. Dating from the Wall, so current date > 8000 (as impatient as I am to test this stuff in the demo, this way will be more flexible in the future, and we only have to wait a week)
4. This isn't final FINAL chance, right? Just final final chance? ;-) You fixed the stuff I mentioned about Beyond the Wall? (Really, my only map comment is that it looks beautiful)

This bit is the only one I really have an opinion on. I think this set up is the best, though as a nitpick it's Westermen. Should the map ever expand to Essos the Valyrian culture group would be useful as well.

2.) First division. Though I'm not sure if the three dornish cultures all need to be different, let's go with it for now.
3.) We have only one week to the full game. Will we really have EVERYTHING ready to go BEFORE then? If we want to use that as our start date later, we might as well do it now and save the editing, rather than have maybe two extra days to "playtest" in the demo IF everything goes well.

We'll be able to make further changes to it when we compile all our work to create the first release, but it will be far more of a pain in the ass, since we'll have to hunt down every id affected by changes (keep in mind, if we delete a province, not only its id will disappear, but all the following ids will decrease, unless we decide to ditch the nice ordering they currently have). Basically, the more we wait to make these changes, the more annoying it will be to make them.

About Beyond the Wall: I think I made the changes you suggested, feel free to make any further corrections. Here's a pic:

I think the dornish internal differences are larger than those between say, westerlander and riverlander...
Afterall the Rhoynar (did I get that right?) brough some pretty new stuff and stayed mainly in the eastern portion or something (*goes check wiki or something*), ok, stayed mainly on the coasts, fine fine..
And I do remember not about some rivalry between parts of dorne, marshes and the rest? so ... it's not fully pointless division.

Hmm, wait, does this mean ... ok, I suppose the others can come from 'offmap' as mongols, otherwise that single province might not be enough :p

But yes, final as in nice numbering will have to be ditched in changes after that makes sense...
Actually, one thing about the map, even knowing sea is kind of irrelevant, some of those sea provinces looked bit weird, not sure if there was a reason for it? I'll go take a look again...

Whether or not we divide the Dornish into all thee groups, we do need to distinguish between the mostly Rhoynish Sand and Salt Dornishmen, who will be getting Muslim portraits and the mostly Andal Stone Dornishmen, who will be getting more European portraits.

Cabezaestufa: Looks good to me. As you say, further alterations will require a lot of effort to keep the numbering consistent, but I'm not sure that's something we should be too protective of. Under the current system, for example, duchies' counties aren't all in order. It's just an organisational tool (and not one that anyone will see while playing the game). Still, to conclude: I previously scrutinised the North and Beyond the Wall, and all my suggestions have been incorporated. The current map is pretty much perfect with regards to those areas. (Although I have a few county ownership/name/duchy revisions to contemplate. Nothing mappy though)

Forgiven: You could be right there about Dorne, and we're probably going to reduce the inter-culture relations penalty anyway, so multiple Dornish cultures could make sense.

Edit: And actually, I'd put Wildings in their own culture group, for sure. Within that group you'd probably want to have Thenn separated, at the very least.
