Game Not Launching

Yesterday I tried to convert a save from CK2 to EU4 and the power cord got knocked out of my computer mid-conversion, at which point my EU4 game completely broke. When I try and load the game the launcher comes up fine however no mods or DLC appear, and when I try and start the game the cursor turns into a load wheel for a couple seconds then just stops and nothing happens. I have tried verifying the game cache on steam and issue 11 on the known issues list (dealing with the mods and DLCs not appearing) doesn't apply because I am running Windows 8, not 7 or Vista. I have also tired completely deleting and uninstalling the game and re-installing, however the issue continued. Anybody have any ideas about how to fix this?

In your deletion, did you clear out all remaining files and folders from the Documents/EU4 directory? If not, try it again but clear out those as well as those under Steam/Eu4 (obviously move any valued save games elsewhere first).

I deleted the entire "Europa Universalis 4" folder from documents

That issue #11 does apply to Win8, it's just that we never got around to adding it to the list when Win8 was released - I'll do that now. It really means "anything after XP. I rather doubt that has anything to do with your problem though, but there's no harm in trying it.

Also visit the Windows Update site and let it apply all .NET updates and patches it wants to.

If all the above doesn't help we'll need to do a full clean reinstall of Steam itself. Move all valued save games of all your Steam games elsewhere, then uninstall all games from Steam (Delete local files). then uninstall Steam itself, and manually clean up all remnant files and directories from the Steam directory and the game directories such as EU4's Documents/EU4 .

Now reinstall Steam - this time put it somewhere outside the system path, so NOT under c:\program files\ but somewhere like c:\games\steam\] or c:\steam\ . Now install EU4 and see if it starts up.

The last option worked, thanks a lot. Any idea why the converter could have caused that?

My guess would be something in Steam's buffering of traffic got stuck due to the crash in mid-conversion. But it's just a guess.
