For some reason when launching EU4 or even Rome 2, neither will do anything on launch. By that I mean it says preparing to launch (insert game here), and then nothing happens, but stem just says syncing files as if I closed the game or something. Anyways, using a program called dependency walker I checked what was wrong with it, and I got this: http://gyazo.com/32cc4d07af78e60bffec918dee329d86
In other words, all the dll files are the wrong version or type or whatever. When using the main .exe file it only causes a 0xc000007b error. Also for whatever reason when I checked the firewall "rules" for in and outbound, both EU4 and Rome 2 were blocked after launching them, even with the firewall off.

Things I have tried so far:
1. Verified game caches
2. Did a clean reinstall
3. Turned off firewalls, gave permissions, etc.
4. Restarted computer
5. Restarted steam
6. "refreshed" steam files

Steam support hasn't given any help after submitting a support ticket about 5 days ago, and I only got an automated message in that time.

Steam themselves cannot help with any problems within games they did not write, only with Steam itself. I try to keep up with the Steam forums when I can, but this is the only official public place to get technical support (as the pinned thread at the top of the Steam forum should make clear). paradox.zendesk.com is our non-forum support system. But you get the same people there as here - basically, me.



Anyway, to your problem. Have these games ever worked for you? If so, what change or update stopped them?

What lead you to check it out with the dependency walker? But there is no known problem in this area.

please try installing:
First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.


If that doesn't help: Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Yes these games have worked perfectly fine before recently. As for changes, I had the 0xc000007b error for another game and added/replaced a few dll files which seemed to fix that game for me but afterwards seemed to have changed all the x86 files to x64. I already went through that installation process before, which unfortunately did not work. The reason I used the Dependency Walker program was because I was looking for solutions to the 0xc000007b error and someone had mentioned it as a method of seeing which DLL files were not what they should be. Everything in the Documents/Paradox/EU4 area is non existent since I tried the clean reinstall and it wont generate the files there because the game cannot even launch.

OK, that normally means you have moved the Documents folder without using the official Microsoft procedure for doing so. Use notepad to make a new text file in the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4/ folder called userdir.txt . In that file place a single dot (period, fullstop). This tells the game to make the user files in the same place as eu4.exe instead of under Documents. If that works, you can just replace that dot with the file path of your new Documents folder, so like e:\documents\eu4\ or whatever you like.

But the problem isn't that it needs to be generated in a specific place, it is that it isn't generating at all. On the EU4 Steam discussion forum one of the mods already went through all of the same stuff so far with me, and none have worked

If you mean to try to do the userdir.txt thing it still did nothing when I tried it again, nothing was changed at all after it seems. Either why I tried the other things yesterday and they yielded the same results

So no user files got created in the Steam Eu4 folder? No settings.txt or /logs/ folder? Odder and odder, I've never seen this before since the game's release. What is different about your machine compared to everyone else's is a puzzle.

Is Steam installed in the default location under c:\program files\ ? If so exit Steam, and manually copy the complete steam/steamapps/common/eu4/ folder to somewhere else, such as c:\eu4\ . Include the userdir.txt file. Now with Steam still not running, double-click on eu4.exe - anything?

where as yours looks like this
computer acer(C:) Europa Universalis IV

i was just checking other peoples posts for help with my problem an noticed it thought it might be worth looking into

In theory it shouldn't matter as long as the game was installed properly, either fully copied from the default install location or had the Steam client point the install to that location.
Might be worth trying the default location though until he can get the game working.

We've had the occasional issue with games under the system path, so trying it outside was worth a shot. But there's certainly no problem with it being anywhere else. It doesn't even have to be where Steam placed it.

Frankly, with all the uncertainties around your DLL files and what exactly's happened to them, I'm starting to think a fresh Windows re-install is the only way forward here. jdrou, what do you think?
