I would like to start by saying that I made a support ticket 2 weeks ago, much closer to the time my problem began, and have gotten absolutely no response. Forgive me if I sound insulted; I am.

This is the support ticket I submitted:

"Hi,

In Crusader Kings II , The Old Gods and all its related content mysteriously stopped working after the 1.111 patch. I can neither start new games in 867 or continue my saved games. The saves now register as broken (null).

I can launch the game with The Old Gods checked, but I am still unable to play in 867 (or any year before 1066) or load any save games. The game seems to run fine if I am playing the vanilla game with the other DLCs checked. When I check The Old Gods, the initial page where you choose your save game or set up your new game offers me William the Bastard & company to play as, although the rest of the screen has the Old Gods' skin.

Additionally, this update has rendered the popular CK2 Mod, A Game Of Thrones, unplayable. I had a chance to try the new GOT update tonight, and it still did not function.

My computer:
Windows 7 Home Premium
AMD Athlon II x4 640 Processor (3GHz)
ATI Radeon 5700 Series, playing in 1400x900 resolution
8GB system RAM

I look forward to getting this resolved, as CK2 has quickly become my favorite Paradox game, with Europa Universalis 4 taking a very close 2nd place!"

Several days later, as a followup, I added something along these lines:

Additionally, my game no longer starts correctly. Upon startup, it goes through the First Time Installation process every single time, with no exceptions. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, reverting to earlier patches, and many tips posted on the internet to no avail.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'll try anything. I just want to play CK2.

The "First time installation" thing has a fix in the sticky "Known issues" thread above. It's not serious.

What version did you have before updating to 1.111? What exact version # and checksum show on the main game menu?

FYI The Old Gods only allows you to start in 867, no year between then and 1066 is playable. This is by design.

Overall I'd Try a full clean reinstall:

If this is Steam: move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the CK2 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders. Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify just to make sure it all came down properly.

If this is GamersGate: Move valued save games elsewhere, and uninstall the game. Manually delete the CK2 directories from where GG put them and from MyDocuments. Reinstall the game (this time pick somewhere NOT under the system path c:\program files\ ), download 1.111 patch again and apply it.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your response and the information. I am using Steam, and had been letting Steam handle the updates. Before uninstalling the game, the version # was 1.111. Unfortunately, a clean install did not work. I followed your instructions and verified the integrity of the game cache with no problems. After the clean install, I am still only able to play in 1066 or later, but now the Old Gods skin does not come up, even when the DLC is checked. I hope that makes sense. As another twist, if I am understanding this correctly, Steam will now only update the game to 1.094. I will try to download the update manually.

You cannot update it manually. What's happened is that you've opted into the 1.09x beta; go into the Steam beta tab and opt out of all betas. Then run the Steam verify, that will get you to 1.111
