Going through a succession crisis. Invited 5 debutantes for 50 gold apiece hoping I could get a bastard off one of them. All of them healthy, all of died within a month of "poor health". Of all the useless courtiers the game could delete why does it choose the ones I paid for and am currently seducing.

Mark them as special interest. Not only does it help you keep tabs of all the claim-holding courtiers you want to use, it prevents them from being cleansed.

Although, I have noticed that foreign claimants hosted at our courts seem to be highly susceptible to catching 5 different diseases or being the world's only known case of non-epidemic bubonic plague. Maybe the game just knows what we're planning :p

Yup, star them. Otherwise, the game ruthlessly kills off useless characters. I've had perfectly healthy children die within months because I made them nuns or monks. Easy way of eliminating suspected bastards.

The pruning does not occur in your court, and it is said that the character "vanished without a trace"

If the game wants to kill off useless characters than can it start with all the Norwegians that showed up and have been trying to assassinate me since they arrived.

You might not realise this, but a much cheaper way is to use the Character Finder to find all Adult, Female, Unlanded, Unmarried females in the game. You then scan through them looking for green "thumbs up" signs whihc means that they will happily accept an invite to your court. They are often lower quality than Present Debutante versions but there are some real gems out there with good family ties (eg youngest daughter of prestigious clan) and best of all they are entirely FREE !

A great way to pad out your court with cheap debutantes or potential commanders.

Also, the useless character remover should only remove people over the age of 40, IIRC, so 17 year old débutantes (and they're always 17) should be fine for 23 years, even with all the other conditions, such as only happening in non-player courts.

Even if I'm wrong and the purge age is 30, that's still 13 years for any given débutante, and once they have a child, they're safe from getting poofed.

I was seriously going to create an account on this forum a couple months ago when I first started playing the game just because I was having this exact same problem and it was driving me nuts. I was desperate for an heir so I spent ungodly amounts of money inviting debutantes in the hopes of siring a bastard. I would actually mark any lustful or talented ones as special interest, yet they would all "die of poor health" in their late teens or early twenties, even the ones I was having affairs with. Suffice it to say, none of them gave me the bastards I was hoping for. I might have even ragequit that particular game because of this issue. I'm assuming this doesn't have anything to do with Reaper's Due since my issue happened well before the expansion came out, though I can only imagine how bad it must be now that the game is actively culling "useless" courtiers.

RNG is a cruel mistress.

RNGesus does not love us. Instead we must appease him much like one does the Lord Rayquaza.

Anyways, maybe there's a problem with young spawned characters that gives them low health. I know I've yet to have a "of the Wilds" character last more than a year or so.
