Game keeps minimising itself

My DH keeps minimising itself on launch, which usually results in graphical corruption when maximising back to full-screen. It gets to nearly a full load-bar, minimises, and then when I maximise, the main menu and the game itself is corrupted with black squares and, ingame, repeating shards of 'textures'.

Any suggestions? It works just fine some of the time, enough for me to play, but it takes perhaps ten launches to make it launch properly.

Probably some other program you have running in the background (some IM programs, anti-virus, or something else) could cause this.

if nothing else helps you could run in windowed mode.

This happens to me too, no AV or IM is involved, it's just random, about once every hour or so.

i set the desktop resolution to 16bit and that seems to fix it for me
