My game keeps regularly crashing when the game autosaves (can't remember if it does 100% of the time, but at the very least it happens a lot). When it crashes I get a Runtime error, with a red circle and a white X in it and the text 'to terminate it in an unusual way'. Normal saving doesn't have this issue, but sometimes this normal saving can't be done. It will pretend to do the saving (close the window, etc.), but when I look in the Load Game menu there's no save game for that date.

This is usually a Windows 32bit problem. We may or may not be able to work around it, depending on how much memory you have.

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Yep. I'd suggest you need to start planning to move to 64bit Windows , so you can use that 1gb of memory that is currently wasted under 32bit Windows.

Meantime try this workaround:
1: Open Command Prompt (it's in Accessories in Vista)

2: Set it to be in Admin mode http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947813(v=ws.10).aspx

3: Paste this in: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2560

4: Restart


5: If you ever need to undo: BCDEdit /deletevalue increaseuserva

I believe the license itself is free, but yes it does need a Windows re-install, sorry. Frankly I've never understood why anyone installed 32bit, if it's no cheaper, has reduced memory access, and has no advantage at all ....

Came with the computer. I bought it right on the treshold of 64-bit adoption. So all my hardware is 64-bit ready, my software just wasn't. Now to find the original Windows stuff that came with it, so I can get my hands some of the details that might allow me to get my hands on that 64-bit download.
