I do not have the game yet, but even EU III is super easy without Magna Mundi we just have to learn the game and wait for a Magna Mundi type mod to be realised.

What I do find critical is that when the UK declared war on me, once they had done that, they merely attacked with a weak force from Canada, and sent little blockade fleets, which I was able to hunt down and destroy with ease. Far too easy - they never tried supporting their ships or challenging my main navies.

That happened in one of my games with the demo as well. This problem was also present in eu: rome when it came out. Eventually, they fixed it and the AI started sending it's fleet in super-stacks.

Of course, EU-Rome has a lot less sea provinces than Victoria 2...

The games seem to go very different on each replay of the demo so Im not yet very worried at all.

However, based on the demo, the AI seems to always put all their troops in 1-2 mega stacks, which essentially forces you to do the same. I dont know if this is very realistic... I guess it might be early on, but it would at least need to change in the late game... does it? :)

If you want a challange, you should try playing Denmark.

The economy is going down the sink, and there is litteraly no soldier population what so ever :p

Your major exports are outbidded by other countries, mostly because all Denmark has is food-wares such as grain and cattle :D

I think that this is the best advice one can give. Personally, i will either wait for some balancing to be made before buying the game, or buy it and play as a minor until things become balanced.

Finally: stood up in the middle of the day. Playing until dawn is not always a good idea but a sign for an addicting game ;) As I said earlier: the patch was already available and I installed it before starting the game. Honestly, playing with denmark to get some challange can not be the solution. If the game was created to have some fun with an underdog, they should not have printed Bismarck on the cover of their game. But I can see your point. Hopefully the next patch will bring some more finetuning.

It is fairly accurate historically, it really changed when trench warfare became the norm, but otherwise it was one giant stack marching from Paris to Moscow.

Is there even any difficulty modificators like hoi3 has? Atleast I didin't see any of such things in Demo. What about manual, will there be such thing, demo didint have manual.

No, but they are considering adding them for v1.2

Playing as USA does seem a bit too easy

3rd attempt at the Demo (abandoned the first two because I couldn't balance the economy).
Let Texas fall to mexico while beating the AI to the colinsation.
Was building up a big army and waiting for Manifest Destiny to fire when GB declared war. All my forces where on the southern border. I though it was game over. Moved north and managed to destroy there stacks and go about taking over canada. Got Ontario in the piece deal, then with my new found confidence went back south and took all the histroical states from Mexico.
It's only 1847 and I have got the traditional lower 48 states. I also have most of the Americas in my Sphere or on there way. No European power seems to compete there. I have half a million bucks and making over 200 everyday.
Civil war hasn't kicked off yet but I wouldn't fear that.
Ranked 3rd in the world and I reckon I ould catch France if I bult up my fleet.
Maybe Europena countries there will be more difficult challneges but this did seem way too fast to be a big challenge.

And why can't you save the game in the Demo??

In real history Spain and Portugal only seriously considered imperialist expansion in North Africa in the late 19th century
Because they didn't see the value. Unlike P'dox players who have all the data (and history) set before them. Which is the fundamental problem with demanding historic expansion - the AI has to be as smart (or as close as) the human player. If France doesn't start colonising until 1860s then you can be pretty sure that they'll find North Africa fully occupied by a human Spain/Italy/Ottomans. So the AI, like the player, has to know the strategic value of colonies in 1836

European Domination in 1856. Now I'm just watching industrialisation, waiting for colonialism to start and hoping to get some fascism soon ;-)

After playing through 30 years as Austria, I have to agree that the game needs to be made more challenging, both through balancing and the addition of difficulty modifiers. Yes, Austria is already a blob but the fact is that I was able to just pick the game up and start playing it without any problems and without running the country into the dirt either. The learning curve didn't seem to be as steep as for, say, HOI3, and the game seemed to be much more forgiving of mistakes.

One specific gripe I have is that the POP assimilation rate seems too fast. I shouldn't have a South German majority by 1860. It makes the game too easy - managing a multiethnic empire should be challenging. Nor is it how people actually behave. Is there any way to mod this?

Isn't that the usual by-product of when devs jump on the making a game more accessible bandwagon? I am sure the game will have a much difficult feel in MP :D Then again playing a major nation is always going to be easy, go for Bavaria and watch Austria and Prusia fight over you!

Yea, it seems like it will be nearly pointless playing as a great power until multiple patches come out fixing the flawed AI. Until then, play as minors or uncivs if you want a longer/more challenging game imo. Unless you set ridiculously unrealistic house rules like not even playing the diplomatic minigame at all.

Kind of similar to vicky 1/EU3 in that any competent player can roll the surrounding great powers pretty easily and only minors/uncivs provide a challenge (until mid/late game when you are a great power and again become nearly unstoppable but at least it takes a bit longer).

Sucks because I was hoping to have more of a challenge in SP in vicky 2. At least multi should be ridic.
