I have to say: This game is fun overall and I am very much impressed by graphics, music, interface and atmosphere. But right now it is also disappointing when we talk about difficulty, historical traceability or balancing. I let some of my screenshot speak for themselves. Some notes to the screenshots: Great Britain is struggeling with internal disputes and is breaking apart fastly; France is marching through Europe without facing any restistance; Denmark could only stand up with 4k men against my prussian army; the "war of brothers" between austria and prussia is unhistorical and completly messed up. With the current state of the diplomacy-system the german empire is easily created within the first 10 or 15 years of gameplay.

It's my first game, but in the case of german unification it could easily be repeated. You only need to add the north german minors to your sphere of influence, which is easy, because Austria is doing not much against it. Then you need to beat denmark in a fast and easy war. To bad there is not difficulty-option at the start of the game.

The game's not even officially out yet and we have a complaint thread

While your complaints may have merit, I think we're going to have to wait until a significant number of people start reporting in with their experiences before we can tell whether you're right, or being needlessly worried.

Edit: @Meanmanturbo - some people in Europe received their boxed copies today.

The early unification of Germany, as well as an early American Civil War, has been mentioned before.

"France is marching through Europe without facing any restistance": maybe Paradox should adjust the diplomatic map of the world, make some strong countries protect the weak, such that no country will easily decide to go to war with another country.

As I pointed out, in that screenshot France hasn't gained even one province.

It seems they are in Spain though, but that is a fight they should win quite easily.

I did not talk about gaining territory but about going to war and facing no resistance! Well I will continue playing and see how it turns out. My point about creating the german empire withing 10 to 15 years still stands however.

edit: To make things even worse, Austria now accepted a white peace in war I was not prepared for and would have lost (who would expect a prussian-austrian war in 1844?!

In MP mode, wars at ahistorical times would not be looked at as unexpected at all. This is a game after all, not a history book.

Belgium and Switzerland I think, and maybe Spain?

Try looking in Africa.
African countries are always very easy to conquer in Victoria games, and it was true in the history of 19th century.

Well, when I fought the Mexicans in the demo, they always tried to offer a white peace, even when they had the upper hand and still occupied some Texas lands. When I accepted the white peace, I found I lost 10 prestige, probably due to the fact that Mexico still had some Texas territories...

So yeah, the AI should be more stubborn than in the demo.

I really hope, Paradox will manage to create a satisfying patch soon.

I´m sure there´s lots of balancing to do - there always is. But really, pronouncements on what needs to be changed based on your first play through?

How about giving it a few dozen test runs and then reporting back?

Well yes, it IS my first game and I was somehow able to create the north german union in 1844? I did not even gave economy much attention and was able to max all sliders. Not I am suddenly gaining 450 plus each day?! If you think the second game will be harder, I hope you are right. But there is something like a lurning-curve aswell ;)

Are you some secret beta tester? How did you get the game a day early?

A lot of stores in Germany put games out when they get them, not when the publisher expects them to sell.

If you can form Germany and beat everyone else on your first run that indeed speks for itself. Plus note Mosbys AAR where just industrialized Japan was able to anex China.
