I didn't play EU2, but I know Hoi2 DD well. I read a little to understand some differences between the games. I choose Poland and in my second game I overrun my enemies very fast. So I tried Grenada on normal ... I took one loan and buyed a lot of mercenaries. I choosen "God this way wanted" national idea and after 20 years with second loan, I won the game after France fall. Game is much easier then HOI2 with possibility of taking loans, and having 10 stack of invincible calvary. I don't need any reasearch to destroy Europe by Granada. Game is unballanced at all .... Loans are killing this game. Having 0 power - you can be a powerfull at once

If he has played in the way I think he has he will have a high inflation and horrible internal infrastructure. Playing Granada I have learned the hard way that expansion must be slow. You will get outteched and torn asunder later on if you are playing Vhard.

Heh. I can in one step DOW all Europe (I am scum now) and in peace deals I could have great amount of money in few years. I have only 400 ducats in loans.

Are you playing on the highest difficulty setting? I wouldn't judge until then.
Ok, but when I choosen one of the hardest country to play, then it's teoretically very hard playing on normal. When I choose ex. Incans with no tech gain at all I have to play on VH too ?

Who bothers in inflation ot technology level when all Europe will be main soon ? But in my game eveything is ok. Inflation: 7%, 100% army tradition = super generals.

This is one reason I am still afraid to buy the game. I have a feeling it is too easy. Again, people are playing the game and "winning" on their first try. I know game balancing may help, but I am scared that they may not be enough. Initial impressions from following this board: way too easy to win as a militarily agressive player; too many wars to begin with; AI is too agressive; balance appears to be way off.

Someone tell me I'm wrong . . . please.

A lot of people push their country into economic strains (taking loans, minting etc.) to conquer vast territories. This by no means show that it's easy. You've just played a short stretch.

Try holding on for 300 years. You're Granada and have a worse tech group than Europeans. In due time the Lucky European nations would form blobs of their own and batter you with better technology troops.

But I do agree as long as you have good generals it's pretty hard to lose.

cheers

If you play the game like this, then you may be right that it gets too easy. For me, this 'world conquest' syle of playing is unattractive and boring. Never understood you guys trying to paint the whole map in one colour.

I prefer behaving more like a rational monarch, trying to establish a stabile nation while not conquering whole continents. Instead, I try to get my cores, some vassals and maybe harm a worse enemy, all of this without getting my reputation through the roof. All in all, I don't regard EU3 as a war game, rather it's a grand strategy game. IMHO, it comes down to which restrictions you give yourself in terms of gameplay. And there are definitely other (better? :) ) aims then world conquest.

Actually, this style is not possible with HoI2-DD, which is something I don't like about that game, despite some really nice concepts. But this is mainly a matter of the completely different time frames.

How do you have 100% army tradition using mercs?

The cheapness of armies, the fact that one army can last you a game added to loans makes conquest with a minor a piece of cake. No two ways about it really.

It can be argued that this is a very ugly strategy and you'll get your comeuppance later etc etc but the fact is you can conquer Europe by 1500 and then your sky high inflation and BB is all irrelevant.

I used them only with war with Castille. Now bulk of my army are invincible Muslim charge Calvary.

I have a lot of money from my vassals - France and Marocco. BB after 20 years is 48 so the only way is war with everybody = more money from vassals, which I will diploannex later.

Witam.

My experience is that Your vassals will eventually turn against You, the bigger the more likely. Also, assuming You had previous wars with them and not so cheerful relations, You will have to bribe them to +200 to have a chance to diplo-annex - it's just not worth the investment.

You think Muslim's charge cavalry is strong: try the Eastern Steppe Cavalry - horses on steroids. What will eventually drag You down is the rebel risk (rebels popping up and decreased revenue). Manpower will possibly be a problem too: especially if Your adversaries will rack up leadership points and get good leaders (or monarchs).

You are absolutely right though, in my two world conquest campaigns so far (Ottomans, Papal State) I have used basically only cavalry units (as ov 1600) . The few infantries I have churned out were never mixed with cavs, artillery at times.

In strategic terms, You just have to focus on few neighbours at a time: which You've done, since there's nothing but water west.

Keep telling.
